Mr. Russell Linden spoke in support of the JAUNT request and also~ <br /> requested Council to consider therapeutic recreation for the handicapped. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Dagger also requested consideration for therapeutic <br /> recreation. <br /> <br /> Mr. Roger McIntosh, Director of Development for Station WVPT <br />requested support of Channel 51 on the basis of 10¢ per capita. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Ann Hobson, President of the Greenbrier Neighborhood Association <br />complemented Council for the moderate tax cut and stated that <br />association would be opposed to large cuts which would curtail service. <br />She also complemented the $50,000 for bike paths and requested <br />consideration for $50,000 for construction of new sidewalks. <br /> <br /> Ms. Jo Perry again requested $5,000 to operate the Youth Employment <br />Service Program year round. <br /> <br /> Ms. Jean Minehart, President of the League of Women Voters, strongly <br />requested that the SChool Budget be funded in full. She stated the <br />League is in support iof fnnding the bus system and also requested <br />Council to give careCul consideration to the request ~f ~OAR. <br /> <br /> There being no one else wishing to speak the Mayor closed the <br /> <br />public hearing. <br /> <br />On motion the me!eting adjourned. <br /> <br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />Approval of <br />minutes <br /> <br />Mrs. John Snook - <br />Teacher at CHS <br /> <br />Mr. Bill Phillips - <br />President Dogwood <br />Festival Board <br /> <br />Ms. Judith Bazin <br />request <br /> <br />Clerk <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER MONDAY, APRIL 2, 1979 <br /> <br /> The Council met in regular session on this date with the following <br />members present: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Buck, Mr. Gatewood and <br />Mrs. O'Brien. Absent: None. <br /> <br /> The minutes of the meetings of March 12th and March 20th were <br /> approved as presented'. However, action on the minutes of the meetings <br /> of March 19th, 21st and 22nd were deferred for amendments. <br /> <br /> Mrs. John L. Snook, Jr. presented members of her senior government <br />class who were in attendance to observe the City Council in action and <br />expressed appreciation'to the Council and other government officials <br />who participated in the seminar on March 26, 27th and 28th. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bill Phillips, President of the Dogwood Festival addressed <br /> <br />the Council and expressed appreciation to the Council for its help <br />over the past years and requested permission to use McIntire Park <br />for amusement rides during the festival this year and also exemption <br />from the license tax Ordinance. On motion by Mr. Gatewood, seconded <br />by Mrs. O'Brien the foregoing requests were approved. <br /> <br /> Ms. Judith Bazin addressed the Council and stated that she and <br /> <br />her husband would be opening a new restaurant on Wear Main Street on <br />April 3rd and they were required to pay the license tax on retail and <br />ABC license for the entire year even though the license year ended <br />April 30th. She requested that Council give consideration to prorating <br />license taxes at least on a quarterly basis and if found reasonable <br />make it effective April 1, 1979.
