Resolution re: Roosevelt Brown Honoring On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by M~~. Gatewood the following resolution was unanimously adopted. WHEREAS, Roosevelt Brown, a nanive of this~City, has brought great credit to himself and to his hometown during a long and distinguished professional football career; and WHEREAS, Mr. Brown first played football as Jefferson High School in this City under the leadership of Coach Robert Smith; and WHEREAS, following his graduation from Morgan State College he played as offensive tackle for the New York Giants from 1953 through 1966, helping the Giants achieve ten consecutive winning seasons; and WHEREAS, during his career Mr. Brown was named all-pro fOr eight consecutive years, and played in the Pro Bowl ten times; and Resolution re: A~arene,ss, Week WHEREAS, the National Football League recongnized Roosevelt Brown's great career~J'by naming him to its Hall of Fame in 1975; and WHEREAS, on April 27, 1979, h~ received the further distinction of being inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that we hereby express to Roosevelt Brown our congra~udations upon his outstanding achievements and the pride of his fellow citizens in the recognition he has received; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the Council be directed to send a suitably prepared copy of this resolution to Mr. Brown. On motion by Mr. Buck, secOnded by Mr. Atbro the following resolution was unanimously adopted. WHEREAS, the maintenance of a clean, safe and adequate supply of water is basic to the welfare and development of any community; and WHEREAS, citizens need to be aware of the effort and expense necessary to provide this vital resource, and of conservation measures which they can take to insure continued maintenance of adequate water supply at a reasonable cost; and WHEREAS, to heighten such public awareness the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority has asked this Council to designate May 20-26 as Water Awareness Week; now,~therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, that May 20-26 is hereby officially designated as Water Awareness Week; and all citizens of the City are urged to participate in the activities sponsored by the Rivanna Water and S~wer Authority during such week, and to practice water conservation measures throughout the year. Resolution re: City Manager to sign lease for the CAC3 Recycling Center Authorizing On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Gatewood the following resolution was unanimously adopted. BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, that the City Manager is herebycauthorized to execute on behalf of the City the following document, in form approved by the City Attorney: Lease Agreement between the City of Charlottesville and the Charlottesville-Albemarle Clean Community Commission for use of city owned property north of the Lane Athletic Stadium for a Collection and Recycling Center. A copy of such document shall be kept on file with the minutes of the Council meeting at which this resolution was adopted. Consideration re: Ordinance rezoning at 1215 Monticello Road -- Denied A report was presented from the Planning Commission recommending that the petition to rezone the property at 1215 Montieello Road from R-2 to M-1 be denied for the following reasons: 1. it would be contrary to the 1990 Land Use Plan; 2. it could have an adverse impact on the surrounding properties in the form of traffic and access problems; and 3. the owner can not meet the parking requirements for any use other than single family or duplex. On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Albro the recommendation of the Planning Commission was adopted by the following recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton, Mr, Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: None. Mr. Buck, Abstained.
