Consideration re:
ppropriation -
3~,006 - Region X
Mental Health Board

173

accept their statement in good faith, then if there is
indications they are acting in anyother way Council could take

further action.

Mrs. O'Brien stated she would like an agreement with JAUNT
that they would cooperate to integrate, and ask the City if
they also would be interested in participating in any new
interjurisdictional routes in the urban area.

On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Mr. Buck the appropriation
resolution was amended to read as follows:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottes-
ville, Virginia, that the sum of $15,000.00 is hereby appropriated
from the unappropriated balance of the General Fund to Expenditure
Account 01-92390 for the continued operation by Jefferson Area
United Transportation, Inc., of transit services winhin the
City of Charlottesville between October 1 1979 and January 1
1980; and be it further ' '

RESOLVED that such services provided by Jefferson Asea
United Transportation, Inc. within the City of Charlottesville
shall have as their first priority the provision of transportation
to those individuals and agencies who are unable to use the
Charlottesville Transit Service or existing taxi services; and
be it further

RESOLVED that $12,000.00 of the sum hereby appropriated
shall be utilized by Jefferson Area United Transportation, Inc.
as the local matching share for its grant application for Uz~ITA
Section 18 operating subsidies; and be if further

RESOLVED that such appropriation is further conditioned
upon the agreement by Jefferson Area~United Transportation, Inc.
if and when it receives such Section 18 funding, to repay to
the City of Charlottesville all amounts appropriated to it by
the City since June 1, 1979, with the exception of the aforesaid
$12,000.00 local matching share; and be it further

RESOLVED that such appropriation is also contingent upon
Jefferson A~ea United Transportation, Inc.'s agreement to
encourage its social services client riders within the City to
unilize the City transit system whenever that is feasible as an
alternative to riding the Jefferson Area United Transportation
Inc. ~ehi~les. '

Mr. Buck stated that is not the end of the process, but
just the beginning. If the staff feels that this can be made
a more stringent agreement and its in the best interest of the
City that it be a more tightly drawn agreement between the City
and JAUNT then we would encourage the staff and JAUNT to work
together with the Highway Department to achieve that end.

The resolution appropriating $15,000 for JAUNT which was
offered at the meeting of the Council on November 5, 1979,was
adopted by the following recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro,

Mr. Brunton, Mr. Buck and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: None. Absent:
Mr. Gatewood.

On motion by Mrs, O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Albro the following
resolution was offered and carried over to the next meeting for
consideration.

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottes-
ville, Virginia that the sum of $3,006.00 or as much thereof
as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated from the unappropriated
balance of the General Fund to Expenditure Account 01-41020
to pro~±de the additional City share necessitated by a change
in the funding formula for the Region Ten Community Mental Health
and Retardation Services Board.

On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Albro the following
resolution was offered and carried over to the next meeting for
consideration.
