<br />On motion by Mr~ Buck, seconded by Mr. Albro, the allocation
<br />of $60,000 for the Joint Security Complex was unanimously approved.

<br /> for $3,517 from another portion of the budget, possibly EConomic

<br /> allocation of $3,000 for the S.P,C.A. was unanimOusly approved.

<br /> Mr. J. Thomas Brown, an agent with the VPI&SU Extension
<br /> Service, answered Council's questions regarding the b~dget for' the
<br /> Extension Service. On motion hyMr. Gatewood, seconded by Mr.
<br /> Albro, the allocation of $22,290 was changed to $14,123 and
<br /> approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton,
<br /> Mr. Buck, Mr. Gatewood. No: Mrs. O'Brien. Mr. Brown was
<br /> asked to request information from VPI&SU about how this
<br /> allocation would affect the continuing existence of the Extension
<br /> Service office and what services would be provided on this budget.

<br /> Council then considered other items in the City Manager~s
<br /> proposed General Fundbudget.

<br /> Mr. Albro, seconded by Mr. Gatewood, moved to accept the
<br /> proposed pay increases for city employees with the exception of
<br /> changing the cost-of-living increase from 9.5% to 8.5%. This
<br /> motion was approved by the following vote'. Ayes: Mr. Albro,
<br /> Mr. Bfunton, Mr. Gatewood. Noes: Mr. Buck, Mrs. O'Brien.

<br /> On motion by Mr. Gatewood, seconded by Mr. Albro, the
<br /> allocation for the school board budget was approved by the
<br /> following vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Gatewood.

<br /> On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Mr. Gatewood, the
<br /> allocation of $50,000. for consultants was changed to $25,000
<br /> and approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton,
<br /> Mr. Buck, Mr. Gatewood. No: Mrs. O'Brien.

<br /> changes in the proposed Public Works budget: eliminate the
<br /> position of assistant director, reduce the street cleaning
<br /> budget to Level A and reduce the traffic engineering budget
<br /> to Level B. Motion was unanimously approved.
