286 <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Honoring retiring <br />Clerk of Council <br />J. Sidney Rush, Jr. <br /> <br /> By common consent, Council adopted the following resolution, <br />presented by Mayor Brunton on behalf of the present and past <br />Councils, as well as the City staff and citizens of Charlottesville: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS you have served the City of Charlottesville as Clerk <br />of Council from September 1, 1953, through June 30, 1980; and <br /> <br /> ~HEREAS you have also served such City as Director of Finance <br />from September 1, 1953, through January 31, 1976, and as Director <br />of Economic Development from January 31, 1976, through June 30, 1980; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during such time, you have carried out your duties <br />with honor, ~!dedication and a sincere effort to serve the interests <br />of the City and its people; now, therefore, be it <br /> <br /> RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, on <br />behalf of all the citizens of this City, that we do hereby express <br />to you, J. Sidney Rush, Jr., our deepest appreciation for the countless <br />efforts and sacrifices which you have made for the proper governance <br />of this City and in pursuit of a better life for its people. <br /> <br /> Adopted and executed at Charlottesville, Virginia, this 16th day <br />of June, 1980, and of the Commonwealth the two hundred fourth. <br /> <br /> Mrs. O'Brien, Mr...~ Gatewood and Mr. Rush each made a brief speech <br />of thanks to the Council for its expression of thanks and wished <br />the new Council luck. Mayor Brunton thanked the Council as well, <br />speaking of his gratitude for the support and friendship he had <br />enjoyed as a citizen and Council member in Charlottesville, and <br />presented small tokens of appreciation to the members of Council. <br />Mr. AlbrO, on behalf of the members of Council and citizens of <br />Charlottesville, presented an engraved gavel to Mr. Brunton for <br />his dedication and fine conduct as Mayor. Mayor Brunton thanked <br />Council for this token of appreciation and closed the Council <br />meeting with a prayer. <br /> <br /> On motion the meeting adjourned.' <br /> <br /> Clerk ~ P~e i ~ <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - MONDAY, J. ULY 7, 1980 <br /> <br />Regular session <br /> <br />Approval of minutes <br /> <br />Matters by the public <br /> <br /> Council met on this date in regular session with the following <br />members present: Mr. Albro, Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, Ms. Gleason, <br />Dr. Hall. <br /> The minutes of June 16 were deferred for approval at the <br /> <br />next meeting. On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Dr. Hall, the <br />minutes of June 23 were unanimously approved as presented. On motion <br />by Mr. Albro, seconded by Ms. Gleason, the minutes of July 1 were <br />approved aa presented. On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Mr. <br />Conover, the minutes of July 2 were approved as presented. <br /> <br /> Mr. H. W. Simons, representing the Charlottesville Federation <br />of Neighborhood Associations, preSented a prepared statement by <br />the Federation urging Council to support and assist the Albemarle <br />County Board of Supervisors in its efforts to insure the adequacy <br />of runoff control measures designed .to protect the water supply from <br />the Rivanna Reservoir. <br /> <br /> Mr. Kenneth Melton of 1418 Hazel Street requested that Council <br /> either vacate or improve an alley in his neighborhood.
