3'32 <br /> <br />Lawrence Brunton, a member of the task force, brought up the <br />question of self-monitoring by the fraternities and sororities, <br />stating that he thought thefraternities had advisors among <br />alumni and from the national chapters who could be pressured to <br />see that local chapters conform to standards at the risk of losing <br />recognition from the University. Ms. Eliason pointed out that many <br />of the houses'were doing their best and many were under financial <br />restrictions that were beyond their control; also, many lack direction <br />from national chap.te=s and alumni who are more names on paper than <br />actual advisors or responmible parties, Mr, Albro urged that the <br />University and £raterni~ty/sorority house's be given more time to make <br />progres~ before the City begins an effort to establish licensing or <br />other formS of controls. <br /> <br /> Regarding University/Community relations, many people asked for <br /> <br />a more continuing coope~ati0n between University, City and neighborhood <br />residents in the planning process. Mr. Buck stated that now community <br />groups are simply reacting to Problems instead of being a part of the <br />process on a regular basis. Mr~ Catlin said that in the past the <br />University had tried to en~ourage regular meetings but that this had <br />been unsuccessful with the City and County planning commissions. Mr. <br />Cole Hendrix,.
