434 <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Supporting Historic <br />Preservation Week <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Requesting Virginia <br />Historic Landmarks <br />Commission to~hold <br />public hearing on <br />Multiple Resource <br />District <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Authorizing mayor to <br />sign agreement for <br />option on Central <br />Place <br /> <br />Ordinance re: <br />Vacating a portion of <br />right-of-way on East <br />Jefferson Street <br /> (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Ms. Gleason~ Council <br />unanimously adopted the following resolution~ <br /> WHEREAS neighborhoods throughout our nation cont~±bute <br />significantly to local vitality through housing~ recreational <br />areas, cultural resources and commercial services and represent <br />an important renewable resource; and <br /> WHEREAS a major public investment is represented in streets, <br />sidewalks, parks, schools, libraries and historic public buildings <br />in our neighborhoods; and <br /> WHEREAS neighborhood conservation requires the good will, <br />cooperation and active support of res±dents, neighborhood <br />merchants, business people, city officials, lenders and <br />preservationists; and <br /> WHEREAS ~eighborhood conservation is designed to helP <br /> revitalizeneighborhoods and increase community pride among <br /> residents; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS preservation builds awareness among urban dwellers <br /> with the concerns of neighborhood history, the city's heritage <br /> and the economic benefits realized by initiating improvements <br /> and restoring a community to a thriving condition; and <br /> WHEREAS an alliance between neighborhood conservation and <br /> historic preservation will help improve the quality of life in <br /> America's neighborhoods and historic districts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS "Conservation: Keeping America's Neighobrhoods. <br /> Together" is t.h~ theme for Preservation Week, 1981, co-sponsored <br /> by the National Trus-t for Historic Preservation and the <br /> Historic Landmarks Commission of Charlottesville, Virginia; <br /> now, therefore, he it <br /> RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br /> Virginia, that we hereby recognize May 10-16,:.1981, as <br /> Preservation Week and call upon the people of Charlottesville <br /> to recognize and participate in this special observance. <br /> On motion by Ms. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Albro, Council <br /> unanimously adopted the following resolution: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Historic Landmarks Co~mission is <br /> considering the designation of portions of the Ridge Street and <br /> Wertland Street Neighborhoods and approximately one hundred <br /> other properties as a "Multiple Resource Area," for nomination <br /> to the National Register of Historic Places; and <br /> WHEREAS Section 138.2 of the Code of Virginia provides that <br /> the City Council may request the Virginia Historic Landmarks <br /> Commission to conduct a public hearing on such a proposed <br /> designation; now, therefore, be it <br /> <br /> RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br /> Virginia, that the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission is <br /> hereby requested to hold a public hearing on the propos, ed "Multiple <br /> Resource Area," and that the Clerk of the Council is hereby directed <br /> to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Executive Director <br /> of the Commission. <br /> On motion by Ms. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Albro, Council <br /> unanimously adopted the following resolution: <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br /> Virginia, that the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute on <br /> behalf of the City the following document, in form approved <br /> by the City Attorney: <br /> <br /> An option agreement of six months granting to The <br /> Parm~mount Place Group exclusive right to purchase <br /> property adjacent to the Central Place and consisting <br /> of parcels first, second and third conveyed to the <br /> City by deed dated February 12, 1974, from Kenridge <br /> Properties, Inc. <br /> <br /> A copy of such document shall be kept on file with the <br /> minutes of the Council meeting at which this resolution was <br /> adopted. <br /> The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING AND <br /> DISCONTINUING A PORTION OF EAST JEFFERSON STREET"which was offered <br /> at the meeting of April 20 was adopted by the following vote. <br /> Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mrs. Buck, Mr. Conover, Ms. Gleason, Dr. Hall <br /> <br />No es: None. <br /> <br /> <br />
