434 Resolution re: Supporting Historic Preservation Week Resolution re: Requesting Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission to~hold public hearing on Multiple Resource District Resolution re: Authorizing mayor to sign agreement for option on Central Place Ordinance re: Vacating a portion of right-of-way on East Jefferson Street (2nd reading) On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Ms. Gleason~ Council unanimously adopted the following resolution~ WHEREAS neighborhoods throughout our nation cont~±bute significantly to local vitality through housing~ recreational areas, cultural resources and commercial services and represent an important renewable resource; and WHEREAS a major public investment is represented in streets, sidewalks, parks, schools, libraries and historic public buildings in our neighborhoods; and WHEREAS neighborhood conservation requires the good will, cooperation and active support of res±dents, neighborhood merchants, business people, city officials, lenders and preservationists; and WHEREAS ~eighborhood conservation is designed to helP revitalizeneighborhoods and increase community pride among residents; and WHEREAS preservation builds awareness among urban dwellers with the concerns of neighborhood history, the city's heritage and the economic benefits realized by initiating improvements and restoring a community to a thriving condition; and WHEREAS an alliance between neighborhood conservation and historic preservation will help improve the quality of life in America's neighborhoods and historic districts; and WHEREAS "Conservation: Keeping America's Neighobrhoods. Together" is t.h~ theme for Preservation Week, 1981, co-sponsored by the National Trus-t for Historic Preservation and the Historic Landmarks Commission of Charlottesville, Virginia; now, therefore, he it RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that we hereby recognize May 10-16,:.1981, as Preservation Week and call upon the people of Charlottesville to recognize and participate in this special observance. On motion by Ms. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Albro, Council unanimously adopted the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Virginia Historic Landmarks Co~mission is considering the designation of portions of the Ridge Street and Wertland Street Neighborhoods and approximately one hundred other properties as a "Multiple Resource Area," for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places; and WHEREAS Section 138.2 of the Code of Virginia provides that the City Council may request the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission to conduct a public hearing on such a proposed designation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission is hereby requested to hold a public hearing on the propos, ed "Multiple Resource Area," and that the Clerk of the Council is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Executive Director of the Commission. On motion by Ms. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Albro, Council unanimously adopted the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the City the following document, in form approved by the City Attorney: An option agreement of six months granting to The Parm~mount Place Group exclusive right to purchase property adjacent to the Central Place and consisting of parcels first, second and third conveyed to the City by deed dated February 12, 1974, from Kenridge Properties, Inc. A copy of such document shall be kept on file with the minutes of the Council meeting at which this resolution was adopted. The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING AND DISCONTINUING A PORTION OF EAST JEFFERSON STREET"which was offered at the meeting of April 20 was adopted by the following vote.
