TAKE NOTICE <br /> A special meeting of the Council will be held Monday Night <br />the 25th inst. at 7:30 P.M. O'clock. <br /> <br />1. Request of Albemarle County to Rezone the Mclntire School <br /> Property. <br /> <br />WORK SESSION: <br />1. Recreation and Open Space Element of Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF <br /> <br />Special Session <br /> <br />Request re: Rezoning <br />McIntire School Property <br /> <br />Work Session <br /> <br />Statement re: Gordon <br />Wheeler, Chairman Board <br />of ~Supervisors County ,. <br /> <br />J. S. Rush, Jr. (signed) <br /> Clerk <br /> <br />Charles L. Barbour (signed) <br /> President <br /> <br /> The Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Fife, Mr. Gilliam, <br />Mrs. Rinehart and Mr. Van Yahres. Absent: None. <br /> The Mayor stated that this meeting had been called to consider <br />the request of Albemarle County to rezone the McIntire School <br />Property, The City Manager reviewed t~e request and outlined <br />in chronological order the actions taken up to this time. Mr. <br />Fife stated that he felt it was a valuable asset to keep the <br />County Offices in the City and he agreed with the back access <br />to the property and with signals being installed at Allied <br />Street. Mr. Van Yahres stated that he agreed with Mr. Fife that <br />this is an important decision for the County, but that not <br />enoughl information has been given by the County. They agreed <br />to have the Highway Department make a traffic study, but the <br />State turned them down and that he is not ready to vote on <br />verbal statements with nothing in writing. Mr. Gilliam stated <br />that if we aren't going to grant the rezoning until we get a <br />commitment from the County on the traffic problem, that that- <br />sounds like conditional zoning. He stated he felt the proponents <br />should come up with good reasons to grant the rezoning in <br />accordance with good zoning practices. A motion by Mr. Fife, <br />seconded by Mr. Barbour that this request be tabled was unanimously <br />adopted. <br /> The-Council then adjourned to a work session on the Recreation <br /> and Open Space Element of the Comprehensive Plan, which was <br /> discussed at lenght. <br /> Mr. Gordon Wheeler, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, came <br /> in and requested permission to speak. A motion by Mr. Fife, <br /> seconded by Mr. Barbour that the rezoning matter be taken from <br /> the .table for discussion, was unanimously adopted. Mr. Wheeler <br /> addressed the Council and stated the County's position. He <br /> stated that it was necessary that the County Offices move <br /> <br /> <br />
