Communication re: <br />State Highway Department <br />Priorities for <br />Street Improvemenns <br /> <br />Re~.olu{ion re: _Renaming <br />Virginia Highway Route <br /> <br />the City of Charlottesville, .and the Board of Supervisors. The <br />City Manager stated that he thought the audit to be performed by <br />the County Auditors would be sufficient. Mrs. Rinehart stated <br />that a detailed audit would be very helpful to the Jail Board <br />in preparing the budget for next year. After a lengthy discussion, <br />on motion by Mrs. Rinehart, seconded by Mr. Van Yahres action <br />was deferred on this matter. <br /> <br /> The City Manager advised the Council that the staff of the <br />State Highway Department had requested the City's priorities for <br />street improvements in order to prepare its bi-annual budget. <br />He stated that at that time the Planning Commission was <br />requested to come up with a list of priorities to be <br />furnished to the State Highway Department. The Blanning Commission <br />recommended: 1. West Main Street. 2. Emmet Street from Massie <br />Street to Ivy Road. 3. Ridge-McIntire Extension. 4.. Emmet <br />Street from Ivy Road to Jefferson Park Avenue. A motion by <br />Mrs. Rinehart, seconded by Mr. Van Yahres that the Planning <br />Commission's recommendation be accepted in order presented, was <br />unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> A communication was presented from the Planning Commission <br />stating that they reviewed the name change designation for <br />Route 20 to Constitution Highway as requested by the Orange <br />County Board of Supervisors some months ago and have determined <br />that there are not significant planning implications for the <br /> <br />City of Charlottesville in this matter. A motion by Mr. Gilliam, <br />seconded by Mrs. Rinehart that the Council support the adjacent <br />Counnies in the name change designation for Route 20, was <br />unanimously adopted. On motion by Mr. Gilliam, seconded by Mrs. <br />Rinehart the following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Orange County Bicentennial Commission on <br />May 115, 1975, adopted a resolution suggesting the redesignation <br />of Viirginia State Route 20 as "Constitution Highway" and <br />suggeisted the cooperation of the localities along Virginia State <br />Route, 20 in efforts to develop and beaufity Virginia State <br />Route~ 20 as a Bicentennial project targeted for completion <br />in 19i89, the 200th anniversary of the ratification of the United <br />State,s Constitution; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Charlottesville <br />deems this project to he most worthwhile and in the best interest <br />of th'e City of Charlottesville; <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville pledges its complete support to the Orange <br />County Bicentennial Commission in accomplishing the purposes <br />set forth in its resolution adopted May 15, 1975, and requests <br />the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation and <br />other governmental bodies located along Virginia State Route <br />20 to also cooperate in making this project a success. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution <br />be forwarded to the Orange County Bicentennial Commission, the <br />Virginia Independence Bicentennial Commission, the Charlottesville- <br />Albemarle Bicentennial Commission, the Board of Supervisors of <br />Albemarle County, the Virginia Department of Highways and <br />Transportation, the Town Council of the Town of Orange, the <br />Town Council of the Town of Scottsville, Buckingham County Board <br />of Supervisors, Sta/te Senator J. Harry Michael, Jr. and <br />Delegate D. French Slaughter, Jr. <br /> <br /> <br />
