Resolution re: <br />Viewers for <br />Meriwether Street <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />General Services <br />Administration <br /> <br />Request re: Mrs. <br />Kay Peasley - <br />amendment to Zoning <br />Ordinance <br /> <br />Executive Session <br /> <br />On motion by Mr. Gilliam, seconded by Mrs. Rinehart <br /> <br />the following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION appointing viewers to consider a <br />request for the vacation of a 15 foot strip of land <br />running in a northeasterly direction from Meriwether <br />Street for approximately 150 feet and Bounded by Parcels <br />37 and on City Tax Map 54. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has received a petition <br />requesting vacation of a 15 foot strip of alnd running <br />in a northeasterly direction from Meriwether Street <br />from approximately 150 feet and bounded by Parcels 37 and <br />38 on City Tax Map 54; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it appears to Council that the notice <br />required by 515.1-364 of the Code of Virginia (1950), <br />as amended, have been duly posted; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of <br />the City of Charlottesville that James P. Borden, Mason <br />S. Byrd and H. P. Winn, Jr. be and the same are hereby <br />appointed as viewers to view such strip of land and <br />report in writing to Council what inconvenience, if any, <br />would result from the vacation thereof. <br /> <br />On motion by Mr. Gilliam, seconded by Mr. Van Yahres <br /> <br />the following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the General Services Administration <br />has expressed its desire to vacate the present Downtown <br />Post Office - Federal Courthouse Building in order to construct <br />a new federal building at a different location; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Intergovernmental Cooperation Act <br />of 1968, National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, and <br />provisions of other Federal laws, executive orders, <br />and administrative regulations require meaningful <br />consultation with local communities to determine whether <br />any anticipated change in location would have a <br />substantial negative impact on this community; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville considers the Downtown Post Office a vital <br />part of the Downtown area and is concerned that any <br />relocation of the Downtown Post Office - Federal Court- <br />house Building from its present location on East Market <br />Street would have a detrimental social and environmental <br />impact; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council <br />of the City of Charlottesville requests that the General <br />Services Administration hold one or more public hearings <br />in the City of Charlottesville with representatives from <br />from the General Services Administration, the U. S. <br />Postal Services, local officials and Virginia's U. S. <br />Senators and Seventh District Congressman so that all <br />parties may adequately respond to questions and other <br />interested parties may express their feelings. <br /> <br />Mrs. Kay Peasley addressed the Council and requested <br /> <br />that consideration be given to an amendment to the Zoning <br /> <br />Ordinance which would mandate special permits for any <br /> <br />fraternity or sorority intending to purchase residential <br /> <br />property and transforming it into a rooming house. <br /> <br />On motion by Mr. Fife, seconded by Mrs. Rinehart the <br /> <br />Council voted to go into executive session to discuss <br /> <br />property acquisition, and personnel, by the f611owing vote. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Fife, Mrs. Rinehart and Mr. Van <br /> <br />Yahres.
