Jaycees <br /> <br />Matters by the Public re: <br />Postal Service in <br />Downtown Area <br /> <br />Communication re: <br />Downtown Charlottesville, <br />Inc. - Old Fashion <br />Bargain Days <br /> <br /> An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, <br />VACATING AND DISCONTINUING A PORTION OF THAT DEADEND <br />ALLEY LYING BETWEEN HARRIS STREET AND THE SOUTHERN RAIL- <br />ROAD," which was offered at the meeting of the Council on <br />June 7, 1976, was adopted by the following recorded vote. <br />Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Fife, Mr. Gilliam, Mrs. Rinehart <br />and Mr. Van Yahres. Noes: None. <br /> An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO CREATE THE <br /> INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF <br /> CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA PHRSUANT TO THE VIRGINIA <br /> INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND REVENUE BOND ACT, TO ESTABLISH <br /> THE POWERS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF SUCH <br /> AUTHORITY, TO PROVIDE FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS <br /> THEREOF, AND TO ESTABLISH CERTAIN LIMITATIONS ON THE <br /> EXERCISE OF THE POWERS OF SUCH AUTHORITY," was offered <br /> by Mr. Gilliam, seconded by Mr. Fife and carried over <br /> until a public hearing can be held. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gary Furrow, representing the Jaycees, <br /> addressed the Council and requested permission from the <br /> Council to nme the 7th Street Parking Lot from June <br /> 28th to July 3rd~for their Annual Fun Fair. On motion <br /> by Mr. Van Yahres, seconded by Mr. Gilliam the fore- <br /> going request was unanimously granted. <br /> Mr. James King, President of the Jefferson Park <br /> Avenue Neighborhood Association, addressed the Council <br /> and asked what action the Council has taken if any <br /> on the proposal to remove the Post Office from the <br /> Downtown Area. After a lenghty discussion, on motion <br /> by Mrs. Rinehart, seconded by Mr. Gilliam, Mr. Hendrix <br /> and Mr. Barbour were requested to write Mr. Galuardi <br /> of GSA to tell him what the downtown area needs in a <br /> postal serve and ask what is required of GSA before <br /> we can get an answer. On mo~ion by Mrs. Rinehart, <br /> seconded by Mr. Van Yahres,~-Mr. Hendrix and Mr. Barbour <br /> were also requested to write the Postal Service and <br /> ask them to remain in the downtown area and express <br /> to the City's needs for downtown postal service. <br /> Mr. Hendrix presented a communication from Down- <br /> town Charlottesville, Inc. requesting that Main Street <br /> be closed for the two blocks west of the Mall on July <br /> 9th and 10th for Old Fashion Bargain Days. On motion <br /> by Mr, Van Yahres, seconded by Mr. Fife the foregoing <br /> request was unanimously granted. <br /> <br /> <br />
