Appropriation <br />re: Sept. rent <br />Boxing Program <br /> <br />Staff Report re: <br />Albemarle Street <br /> <br />Staff Report re: <br />Transfer of <br />School Buses to <br />School Board <br /> <br /> the General Fund,'~'but in either case the equipment should be City <br /> owned Mr. Bobby Banks, addressed the Council and stated that he <br /> still needed the requested $10,000 for facilities and equipment, <br /> but the $3,000 could~be used for acquiring the necessary equipment <br /> and he would try to raise money for rent through other sources. Mr. <br /> Brunton reported that he had received a $100 donation for the <br /> program. A motion by Mr. Barbour to appropriate $9900 for the <br /> Boxing Program died for lack of a second. A motion by Mr. Gatewood, <br /> seconded by }ir. Brunton that Mr. Banks be assued $3,000 will be <br /> provided from Community Development Revenue Sharing funds if <br /> possible and if not possible it will be provided from City Funds, <br /> was unanimously adopted. On motion by Mr. Barbour, seconded by <br /> <br /> Mr. Brunton the following resolution was adopted by the following <br /> recorded vote,, Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Fife and <br /> <br /> Mr. Gatewood. Noes: None. Absent: Mrs. O'Brien. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville <br /> that $320 be and the same is hereby appropriated from the General <br /> Fund for September rent for the Boxing Program~ <br /> <br /> A report was presented from the City Manager stating that the <br /> State Highway Department has refused to participate in the cost of <br /> constructing Albemarle Street from Preston Avemue. He stated they <br /> are willing to participate in the cost of constructing a turn-a- <br /> round on each end of the severed Albemarle Street. Rev. R. A. <br /> <br />Johnson addressed the Council and stated that this would not be <br />satisfactory. He stated that for purposes ofj his church Albemarle <br />Street needs a connection to Preston Avenue. A motion by Mr. <br />Barbour, secOndedby Mr. Fife that Albemarle Street be constructed <br />one lane from Preston Avenue and limited to one way traffic and <br />that the State Highway Department be requested to participate in the <br />cost of this project on the usual basis, was adopted by the <br />following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Brunton and Mr. Fife. Noes: <br />Mr. Gatewood. Absent: Mrs. O'Brien. <br /> <br /> The City Manager advised the Council that when the School Board <br />was authorized to begin a pupil transportation program in 1974 the <br />City purchased twenty-six new school buses and seven used buses, and <br />that the City maintained title to the purchased buses leasing them <br />to Yellow Transit Company who operated the program for the School <br />Board. He recommended that the title to the twenty-six new buses <br />be transferred to the School Board which would end the present <br />three party arrangement, which appears to no longer be needed. He <br />stated if none of the used buses are needed as back up for the School <br />Bus System the City will maintain these and sell three at auction <br />or sealed bid. Mr. J. T. Graves addressed the Council and stated <br />tha~: he had no objection to the transfer as long as the School <br />Board would lease the buses to him on the same basis as the City, <br /> <br /> <br />
