33'.Z Regular meeting Minutes deferred Appointments re: Airport Board Appointments re: Committee for the Employment of Handicapped Appointments re: Charlottesville Development Group Request re: Dogwood Festival Request re: Library Board Presentation re: Mike Gleason - Italian Visit in April COUNCIL CHAMBER - TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1978 The Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Fife, Mr. Gate- wood and Mrs. O'Brien. Absent: None. Action on the minutes of February 6, 1978, was deferred until the next meeting. On motion by Mr. Fife, Mr. Kal Howard and Mr. James Scott were reappointed to the Airport Commission, by unanimous vote. (Mr. Gatewood was absent at this time) On motion by Mr. Brunton, seconded by Mr. Barbour the following were appointed to the Committee for Employment of the Handicapped. Sandra Brockhausen George Helfenstein Bruce Keith Mrs. Jane Parkhill Mrs. H. Payne Mrs. Jean Saunders Tom Wilder Ron Enders Tom Holland Charles Lundum Maxwell Patton Dave Russell John Warren On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Fife the following were appointed to the Charlottesville Development Group, by unanimous vote. (Mr. Gatewood was absent at this time) F. Alton Garrett Jason I. ECkford, Jr. Eric M. Heiner Henry W. Maclin, Jr. J. A. Kessler, Jr. Eugene Williams .Mitchell Van Yahres Hovey S. Dabney Bernard J. Haggerty Betty C. Scott John W. Fitzwater George R. Ferguson Robert Vickery Charles J. Goetz Dennis W. Barnes Mr. Marshall Pryor addressed the City Council and advised that the Annual Dogwood Festival would be held April 11 thru April 23, 1978. He requested permission for the festival to use Mclntire Park for the rides, an exemption from the license tax ordinance and requested the City to donate a trophy for the track meet. On motion by Mr.Brunton, seconded by Mr. Barbour the foregoing requests, were approved. A communication was presented from the Library Board stating that funds which have been encumbered in prior years and not expended were being returned to the jurisdictions from Which they came. It also stated that there is an anticipated deficit of $8,974 in the operating budget for 1977-78 and requested an appropriation from the City in the amount of $2,908 to cover the City's share of the deficit. Action on this request was deferred until the next meeting. Mr. Mike Gleason addressed the Council and stated that he had been advised by.,. the State Department that a group from Italy wish to' visit Charlottesville sometime during the month of April and requested that Council consider reactivating the committee to make the recommendations concerning this visit. On motion by Mr. Brunton, seconded by Mr. Fife the foregoing request was approved.
