<br />OF THIS CiTY DURING HUNGER WEEK, FROM NOVEMBER 1 THROUGH 7, t971, TO MAKE THEMSELVES
<br />MORE AWARE OF THE MAGNITUDE OF THIS PROBLEM, BOTH NEAR AND FAR, AND TO ACT THROUGH
<br />AGENCIES OF THEIR OWN CHOICE TOWARDS ITS ALLEVIATION.

<br />MR. BARBOUR, MR. DAVIS, MR. FIFE, MR. VAN YAHRES AND MR. WRIGHT. ABSENT: NONE.

<br /> REV. CHARLES R. JONES, PASTOR OF THE MONTICELLO WESLEYAN CHURCH, GAVE THE INVOCATION.
<br /> THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF NOVEMBER 1, 1971 WERE APPROVED AS PRESENTED.

<br /> MR. JAMES B. MURRAY, CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE LOCAL BOARD AND DR. HAROLD J.
<br />McGEE, PRESIDENT OF PIEDMONT VIRGINIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND GAVE A
<br />PROGRESS REPORT ON THE COLLEGE'S DEVELOPMENT. DR. MCGEE STATED THAT CONSTRUCTION WILL BEGIN
<br />IN FEBRUARY, 1972, AND THE COLLEGE WILL OPEN t'N THE FALL OF 1972 AT A TEMPORARY LOCATION.
<br />
<br />HE ALSO STATED THAT THE COST OF THE COLLEGE SITE AND DEVELOPMENTS WOULD SUBSTANTIALLY EXCEED
<br />THE 1969 ESTIMATE OF '400,000.00. HE ESTIMATED THAT THE PRESENT COST WOULD BE ~645,000.00.

<br /> MR. SCOTT WINE, DIRECTOR OF THE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT SERVICE, ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND
<br />PRESENTED HiS ANNUAL REPORT OF OPERATIONS FOR 1971, COPY OF WHICH IS ON FILE WITH THE
<br />MINUTES OF THIS MEETING.

<br /> THE CITY MANAGER PRESENTED AND EXPLAINED PLANS FOR THE NEW JOINT SECURITY COMPLEX
<br />
<br />TO BE CONSTRUCTED OFF ROUTE 742, SOUTH OF THE CITY. HE STATED THAT THE ARCHITECTS WOULD
<br />ADVERTISE FOR BIDS iN EARLY DECEMBER, AND EXPECTS CONSTRUCTION TO BE COMPLETED IN ABOUT TWO
<br />YEARS. ON MOTION bY MR. WRIGHT, SECONDED BY MR. FIFE, THE CITY MANAGER WAS AUTHORIZED TO
<br />PROCEED WITH THE PROJECT.
