MATTER ~: HOUSES ON <br />RIDGE LANE <br /> <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT THERE IS HEREBY CREATED A COMMITTEE OF SEVEN (7) MEMBERS <br /> <br />TO BE SELECTED AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> l~fo FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC~ ONE FROM THE ALBEMARLE <br /> COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY~ TWO FROM THE BOARD OF ARCHITECTURAL <br /> REVtEW~ THE PLANNING DIRECTOR AND ONE MEMBER OF THE PLANNING <br /> COMMISSION. THE MEMBERS FROM THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY, THE <br /> PLANNING COMMISSION AND THE BOARD OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW SHALL <br /> BE SELECTED BY ITS BODIES AND THE TWO MEMBERS FROM THE GENERAL <br /> PUBLIC SHALL BE APPOINTED BY THE MAYOR. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THIS COMMISSION IS CHARGED WITH THE TASK <br /> <br />OF DETERMINING ACTION APPROPRIATE TO PREVENT THE DEMOLITION OF STRUCTURES WHICH <br />OUGHT TO BE PRESERVED~ TO DETERMINE PROCEDURES FOR DEVELOPING SPECIAL USES FOR <br />SUCH STRUCTURES AND TO ADVISE THE COUNCIL ON THE DESIRABILITY OF ESTABLISHING A <br />LANDMARK COMMISSION AND IF ONE SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED THE COMPOSITION OF SUCH <br />COMMISSION. <br /> <br /> MR. BARBOUR ASKED THE CITY MANAGER IF THE CITY OR THE HOUSING AUTHORITY CAN <br />DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THE HOUSES ON RIDGE LANE~ OR CAN THEY BE DE- <br />MOLISHED. MR. HENDRIX STATED THAT HE HAS SPOKEN TO THE DIRECTOR OF THE HOUSING <br />AUTHORITY ABOUT THIS QUESTION BUT HAD NO SUCCESS. MR. BARBOUR SUGGESTED THAT THE <br />CITY MANAGER AGAIN URGE THE HOUSING AUTHORITY TO DEMOLISH THESE BUILDINGS. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. DAVIS~ SECONDED BY MR. VAN YAHRES AND MR. WRIGHT. ABSENT: NONE. <br /> <br /> A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON THIS DATE TO DISCUSS CONSTRUCTION OF THE PROPOSED <br />NEW HIGH SCHOOL. <br /> <br /> MR. FIFE GAVE A HISTORY OF THE BACKGROUND AND PLANNING FOR THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL, <br />THE CITY MANAGER THEN GAVE A SUHMARY OF HIS PROPOSED FIVE YEAR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS <br />PROGRAM. <br /> <br /> A PROPOSAL TO CHANGE THE SITE LOCATION OF THE SCHOOL FROM THE NICKEL PROPERTY <br /> <br />TO MC INTIRE PARK WAS ALSO DISCUSSED AT LENGTH. <br /> <br /> A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL BOTH FOR AND AGAINST CHANGING <br /> <br />THE SlTE~ WITH THE MAJORITY BEING IN FAVOR OF NOT CHANGING THE SITE. <br /> <br />AFTER EVERYONE HAD BEEN AFFORDED AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK~ THE MAYOR THANKED THE <br />PEQPLE FOR THEIR ATTENDANCE AND SUPPORT~ AND STATED THAT A DECISION WOULD BE ANNOUNCED <br /> <br /> <br />
