SLAUGHTER, KNOWN TO HIS COUNTLESS FRIENDS AS "BUTCH", HAS <br />SERVED AS A MEMBER SINCE HIS INITIAL APPOINTMENT IN 1954, AND AS CHAIRMAN SINCE <br />1956, OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY; AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, HIS FAITHFUL ATTENDANCE AT MEETINGS, H1S CALM AND SOUND ADVICE, <br />AND HIS ENTHUSIASH FOR NEEDED PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN A CONTINUING SOURCE OF INSPIRATION <br />TO THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE AUTHORITY AND ITS STAFF; AND <br /> <br />WHEREAS, HIS PATIENT UNDERSTANDING AND LEADERSHIP HAVE BEEN A MAJOR FACTOR <br />IN SOLVING DIFFICULT PROBLEMS FACING THE AUTHORITY AND THE CITY. <br /> <br /> NO~, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTES- <br />VILLE THAT ON BEHALF OF THE CITIZENS OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, THE COUNCIL EXPRESSES ITS <br />SINCERE APPRECIATION TO E. R. "BUTCH" SLAUGHTER FOR THE EIGHTEEN (18) YEARS OF DE- <br />DICATED, INVALUABLE ~ERVICE HE HAS RENDERED.
