260 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION RE: <br />MOVING HOUSE TO <br />SHOPPING CENTER <br /> <br /> WHEREAS`, THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS WAS CALLED UPON TO MOVE A <br />DILAPIDATED HOUSE FROM ITS ORIGINAL POSITION IN CHARLOTTESVILLE TO THE BARRACKS <br />ROAD SHOPPING CENTER; AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS`, THE REMOVAL OF THIS HOUSE REQUIRED THAT THE HOUSE BE CUT IN <br />HALF, LOADED ON A TRANSPORT VEHICLE`, MOVED THROUGH THE STREETS AND REASSEMBLED <br />AT THE SHOPPING CENTER$ AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ PERSONNEL OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE DIVISION`, THE INSPECTION <br />DIVISION AND THE BUILDING MAINTENANCE DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC <br />WORKS DISPLAYED GREAT INGENUITY AND TECHNICAL SKILL BEYOND THAT EXPECTED OF <br />PERSONNEL IN THEIR POSITION WHICH PRODUCED SUCCESSFUL ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THIS <br />TASK WITHOUT INCIDENT. <br /> <br /> NC~ THEREFORE`, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTES- <br />VILLE THAT THE COUNCIL HEREBY COMMENDS THE PERSONNEL OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE DIViSlON~ <br />THE ~NSPECTION DIVISION AND THE E~JILDING MAINTENANCE DIVISION OF THE PUBLIC WORKS <br />DEPARTMENT FOR THEIR DEMONSTRATED PROFICIENCY IN PERFORMING THIS TASK. <br /> <br />ON MOTION BY MR. CARROLL GOODRIDGE, PASTOR OF-ALDERSGATE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH~ GAVE THE <br /> <br />INVOCATION. <br /> <br />THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF AUGUST 7~ 1972 WERE APPROVED AS PRESENTED. <br /> <br />A PETITION WAS PRESENTED FROM CHARLOTTESVILLE OIL HAULING COMPANY REQUESTING THE VAC'ATING`, <br />CLOSING AND DISCONTINUANCE OF CERTAIN STREETS AND ADJOINING TRAFFIC ISLAND ON OLD VIRGINIA <br />ROUTE 20 AND HONTICELLO ROAD. ON MOTION BY MR. GILLIAM~ SECONDED BY MR. BARBOUR~ TME <br /> <br />FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS`, CHARLOTTESVILLE OIL HAULING Co.~ INC.~ HAS GIVEN DUE AND PROPER <br />NOTICE`, 1N ACCORDANCE WITH THE STATUTES FOR SUCH CASES MADE AND PROVIDED~ THAT IT <br />WOULD ON THIS DAY APPLY TO THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE~ VlRGINIA~ <br />FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF VIEWERS TO VIEW THE BELOW DESCRIBED PROPERTY AND REPORT IN <br />WRITING TO THE COUNCIL WHETHER~ IN THE OPINION OF SAID VIEWERS~ ANY~ AND IF ANY~ <br />WHAT INCONVENIENCE WOULD RESULT FROM THE DISCONTINUING OF THE HEREINAFTER DESCRIBED <br />STREET IN THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE~ VIRGINIA`, AND HAVE FILED SUCH APPLICATION <br />WITH THE SAID COUNCIL. <br /> <br /> NOW., THEREFORE`, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE~ <br />VIRGINIA: <br /> <br /> THAT WILTON A. BORDEN~ ARE HEREBY APPOINTED <br />TO VIEW THE BELOW DESCRIBED PROPERTY AND REPORT IN WRITING TO THE COUNCIL ON OR BEFORE <br />SEPTEMBER 18, 1972`, WHETHER IN THEIR OPINION, ANY`, AND IF ANY`, WHAT INCONVENIENCE <br />WOULD RESULT FROM THE DISCONTINUING~ CLOSING AND VACATING OF THAT CERTAIN STREET LOCATED <br />IN THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE~ VIRGINIA`, AND DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />OLD VIRGINIA ROUTE 20 (ALSO CALLED MONTICELLO AVENUE) AND <br />MONTICELLO ROAD (ALSO CALLED SCOTTSVlLLE ROAD)~ TOGETHER <br />WITH AN ADJOINING TRAFFIC ISLAND AT THIS JUNCTURE AND <br />EXTENDING FROM THE SOUTHERN MARGIN OF RELOCATED ~UARRY <br />ROAD AND MOUNTAIN VIEW STREET~ SOUTH TO THE ADJOINING <br />TRAFFIC ISLAND AND THE JUNCTION OF BOTH STREETS AND ROADS~ <br />THENCE SOUTH TO A WESTERN EXTENSION OF THE SOUTHERN <br />BOUNDARY L-INN ~F PETITIONER'S PROPERTY NEAR MOORE'S CREEK~ <br />AND SOUTH OF THE LOCATION OF THE TWO JOINED STREETS AND <br />ROADS AND ADJOINING TRAFFIC ISLAND AND TERHINATING WITH A <br />DEAD END HIGHWAY STRUCTURE`, BUT THE ENTRANCE AND RIGHT OF <br />INGRESS AND EGRESS TO AND FROM PETITIONER'S PROPERTY~ AT <br />THIS LOCATION`, IS NOT TO BE ELIMINATED`, BUT ~S TO REMAIN <br />OPEN AND USABLE AS AT PRESENT~ TO AND FROM RELOCATED <br />~UARRY ROAD`, MONTICELLO ROAD AND MOUNTAIN VIE~ STREET. <br /> <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE SCHOOL BOARD REQUESTING AN APPROPRIATION TO <br /> <br />COVER THE COST OF FURNISHING MID-DAY TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM KINDERGARTENS. REV. HENRY <br /> <br />MITCHELL~ CHAIRMAN OF THE SCHOOL BOARD, ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL IN SUPPORT OF THIS REQUEST. <br /> <br />HE STATED THAT SIX BUSES PER DAY WILL BE NEEDED AT A COST OF ~O.00 PER BUS.
