296 <br /> <br />CONSIDERATION RE: <br />APPROPRIATION FOR <br />STREET LIGHTS AT <br />UNIVERSITY <br /> <br />RESOLUTION RE: <br />JOINT SANITARY <br />LANDFILL SITE <br /> <br />ORDINANCE RE:CHANGING <br />VOTING PLACE <br /> <br />ORDINANCE RE: <br />PROPERTY TAX RELIEF <br />TO PERSONS Of AGE <br />65 OR OVER <br /> <br />ORDINANCE RE: <br />APPOINTMENT OF <br />CITY ATTORNEY <br /> <br /> A REPORT WAS PRESENTED FROM THE DIRECTOR OF TRAFFIC ENGINEERING RECOMMENDING <br /> <br /> A PLAN FOR IMPROVING THE STREET LIGHTING AROUND THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA GROUNDS. <br /> THE REPORT STATED THAT THE COST WOULD BE ~9,9OO PER YEAR OR ~3,300 FOR THE REMAINDER <br /> OF THIS YEAR. ON MOTION BY MR. RINEHART, SECONDED BY MR. BARBOUR THE FOLLOWING <br /> RESOLUTION WAS OFFERED AND CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT MEETING FOR CONSIDERATION. <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT ~3,300 BE <br /> AND THE SAME IS HEREBY APPROPRIATED FROM THE UNAPPROPRIATED BALANCE IN THE GENERAL <br /> FUND FOR STREE~r LIGHT IMPROVEMENTS. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MRS. RINEHART, SECONDED BY MR. E~ARBOUR THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS <br /> <br /> UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> WHEREAS, THE ANTICIPATED USE BY THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE OF THE ALBEMARLE <br /> COUNTY SANITARY LANDFILL SITE AT IVY PROVIDES ONLY A TEMPORARY SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM <br /> <br /> OF SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL; AND <br /> WHE, REAS, IT I'S THE FIRM INTENTION AND WISH OF THIS COUNCIL THAT SUCH USE OF <br /> THE iVY LANDFILL BE TERMINATED BY JUNE 30, 1973; AND <br /> WHEREAS, It IS CLEAR THAT THE MOST SATISFACTORY SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF <br /> SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL FOR BOTH THE COUNTY AND THE CITY WILL BE THE SELECTION OF A <br /> SUITABLE SITE FOR A JOINTLY OPERATED SANITARY LANDFILL UPON MUTUALLY SATISFACTORY <br /> TERMS; AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, A MINIMUM OF NINETY DAYS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PREPARE SUCH A SITE <br /> FOR LANDFILL OPERATION ONCE IT HAS BEEN SELECTED; AND IT IS THEREFORE IMPERATIVE THAT <br /> <br /> ~ SUCH PREPARATION BE BEGUN BY APRIL 1~ 1973; NOW, THEREFORE BY IT <br /> RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL Of THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT THE E~OARD OF <br /> .~. SUPERVISORS OF ALBEMARLE COUNTY BE MOST EARNESTLY REQUESTED TO ACT WITH DISPATCH TO <br /> <br />-- APPROVE A SUITABLE AND PERMANENT SITE FOR A JOINT COUNTY-CiTY LANDFILL OPERATION, IN <br /> ORDER THAT THE CITY~$ USE OF THE IVY LANDFILL MAY BE TERMINATED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE; <br /> AND BE IT <br /> <br /> FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT THE CLERK OF THE COUNCIL BE DIRECTED TO SEND A COPY <br /> OF THIS RESOLUTION TO EACH MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ALBEMARLE COUNTY. <br /> AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REORDAIN SUBPARAGRAPH (A) (2) <br /> '" OF SECTION 1-13 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1965, RELATING TO <br /> ELECTION DISTRICTS AND VOTING PLACES, WHICH WAS OFFERED AT THE MEETING OF THE <br /> COUNCIL ON FEBRUARY 6, 1973 WAS ADOPTED BY THE FOLLOWING RECORDED VOTE. AYES: <br /> MR. BARBOUR, HR. FIFE, MR. GILLIAM, MRS. RINEHART AND MR. VAN YAHRES.
