PUBLIC HEARING: <br />TRUCK ORDINANCE <br /> <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION <br /> <br />A PUBLIC HEARING WAS ALSO'~-~D~ON A PROPOSED TRUCK ORDINANCE SETTING FORTH TRUCK <br />ROUTES IN THE CITY. A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SPOKE IN FAVOR OF THIS ORDINANCE. AFTER <br />A LENGTHY DISCUSSION, ON MOTION BY MR. VAN YAHRES, SECONDED BY MRS. RINEHART ACTION WAS <br />DEFERRED UNTIL A WORK SESSION COLLD BE HELD. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. VAN YAHRES, SECONDED BY ~RS. RINEHART THE COUNCIL VOTED TO GO INTO <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION .TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE LITIGATION AND PERSONNEL MATTERS, BY THE FOLLOWING <br />RECORDED VOTE. AYES: MR. BARBOUR, MR. PUBLIC HEARING RE: REQUEST OF CHARLOTTESVILLE REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY <br /> FOR APPROVAL OF PROPOSED LOW-RENT HOUSING SITES. <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING RE: <br />LOW-RENT HOUSING <br /> <br /> , J.S. RUSH, JR. (SIGNED) FRANCIS H. FIFE (SIGNED) <br /> CLERK PRESIDENT <br /> <br /> THE COUNCIL MET IN SPECIAL SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS PRESENT: <br /> <br /> MR. BARBOUR, ~. FI:E, MR. GILLIAM, AND MR. VAN YAHRES. ABSENT: MRS. RINEHART. <br /> <br /> A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON THIS DATE ON THE REQUEST OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE REDEVELOPMENT <br /> AND HOUSING AUTHORITY FOR APPROVAL OF SIX PROPOSED LOW-RENT HOUSING SITES. EACH SITE WAS <br /> DISCUSSED SEPARATELY THE FIRST BEING MADISON AVENUE, MR. EDGAR PURYEAR, JR., ADDRESSED THE <br /> COUNCIL ON BEHALF OF THE WOODLAWN HOME EMNERS ASSOCIATION IN OPPOSITION TO THE MADISON AVENUE <br /> SITE BEING USED FOR PUBLIC HOUSING. A NUMBER OF PEOPLE ALSO ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL FROM THE <br /> <br /> AREA IN OPPOSITION AND REMINDED THE COUNCIL THAT THIS LAND IS PRONE TO FLOODING. <br /> <br /> THE NEXT SITE DISCUSSED THE CHESAPEAKE - SHORT 18TH STREET, MR. FORBES REBACK, ATTORNEY <br /> <br /> FOR THE PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE AREA ADDRESSED THE O3UNCIL IN OPPOSITION TO THESE SITES. MR. <br /> REBACK PRESENTED A PETITION SIGNED BY 347 PERSONS IN OPPOSITION TO THESE SITES. THE PEOPLE <br /> IN THE AREA RECOMMENDED AN ALTERNATE SITE CALLED THE RIVERSIDE OR JESSUP SITE AND STRONGLY <br /> <br /> RECOMMENDED THAT THIS SITE BE USED INSTEAD OF THE CHESAPEAKE - SHORT 18TH STREET. <br /> <br /> THE CLEVELAND AVENUE SITE WAS NEXT DISCUSSED. MR. HIBBERT KLINE, III. ADDRESSED THE <br /> COUNCIL IN OPPOSITION TO THIS SITE AND PRESENTED A PETITION WITH 243 SIGNATURES IN OPPOSITION. <br /> <br /> MR. KLINE STATED THAT THIS SITE IS ALSO PRONE TO FLOODING. MR. LAWRENCE HERBERT ADDRESSED THE <br /> <br />COUNCIL AND REQUESTED THAT THE NUMBER OF UNITS BE REDUCED FROM 12 TO 8. A NUMBER OF PEOPLE <br />ALSO ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL IN OPPOSITION. <br /> <br /> NO ONE APPEARED FOR OR AGAINST THE PROPOSED 6TH STREET, S.E. AND MICHIE DRIVE SITES. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. VAN YAHRES, SECONDED BY MR. BARBOUR ACTION ON THE REQUEST OF THE <br /> <br />HOUSING AUTHORITY WAS CARRIED OVER TO A SPECIAL MEETING TO BE HELD ON THL~RSDAY, MAY 9, 1974. <br />ON MOTION THE MEETING ADJOURNED. <br /> <br />PRES I DENT <br /> <br /> <br />
