BO. <br /> <br />REQUEST RE~ JAIL <br />BOARD - ADDITIONAL <br />CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS <br /> <br /> THE CO~JNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING <br /> <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: MR. BARBOUR, MR. FIFE, MR. GILLIAM, MRS. RINEHART AND MR. <br /> <br /> VAN YAPIRES. ABSENT: NONE. <br /> <br /> MRS. RUTH BRISTOL, ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL WITH REGARD TO THE POLICE <br /> <br /> MANPOWER SITUATION AND ASK WHAT ACTION IS PLANNED FOR NEXT YEAR AND WHAT <br /> ACTION FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS YEAR. THE CITY MANAGER ADVISED MRS. BRISTOL <br /> THAT THE BUDGETS FOR NEXT YEAR ARE NOW] BEING PREPARED. <br /> <br /> MR. DOUG DABNEY, A STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA ADDRESSED THE <br /> <br /> COUNCIL AND REQUESTED A SPECIAL PERMIT AND RELIEF FROM SECTION 3.7 OF THE <br /> <br /> CITY CODE WHICH PROHIBITS PIGS IN THE CITY. THIS MATTER WAS REFERRED TO <br /> <br /> A COMMITTEE COMPOSED OF MR. FIFE, MR. VAN YAHRES AND MR, WILEY FOR <br /> <br /> RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br /> A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON THIS DATE ON THE PROPOSED ORDINANCE RELATING <br /> <br /> TO REAL ESTATE RELIEF FOR THE ELDERLY AND RENTAL RELIEF FOR THE ELDERLY. MR. <br /> <br /> GEORGE WILEY, ~S. MARCI8 MASHAW AND FATHER WILLIAM STICKLE ADDRESSED THE <br /> <br /> COUNCIL IN FAVOR OF THE PROPOSED ORDINANCES. MR. GLEN M. BATEMAN ADDRESSED <br /> <br /> THE COUNCIL IN OPPOSITION. MR. VAN YAHRES SUGGESTED THAT THE OLD ASSESSMENT <br /> <br /> FIGURE BE RETAINED, BUT INCREASE THE INCOME LEVEL. HE ALSO ASKED IF COMMUNITY <br /> DEVELOPMENT FUNDS COULD BE USED TO FINANCE THIS PROGRAM. ON MOTION BY MR. <br /> <br /> FIFE, SECONDED BY MR. VAN YAHRES ACTION WAS POSTPONED FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. <br /> THE MAYOR REQUESTED MRS. RINEHART AND MR. GILLIAM TO WORK WITH THE CITY MANAGER <br /> ON RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING THIS PROGRAM. <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. GILLIAM, MR. JAMES W. GROVE AND MR. ROBERT P. HODOUS WERE <br /> REAPPOINTED TO THE REGION X MENTAL HEALTH AND RETARDATION SERVICES BOARD FOR A <br /> THREE YEAR TERM EXPIRING DECEMBER 31, 197T. ON MOTION BY MR. GILLIAM THE <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS OF MRS. BETTIE KIENAST, DR. CHARLES PERKINS AND MRS. MARY WETSEL <br />WERE RATIFIED. <br /> <br /> MRS. RABINOWITZ ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND REQUESTED THE ADDITION OF <br /> <br />THREE CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS FOR THE JOINT JAIL. SHE STATED THAT THESE POST <br /> <br />HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY THE STATE COMPENSATION BOARD AND THE COST TO CHARLOTTESVILLE <br /> <br />WOULD BE $3,148 FOR THE BALANCE FOR THIS FISCAL YEAR. ON MOTION BY MR. FIFE, <br /> <br />SECONDED BY [FR. VAN YAHRES THREE ADDITITIDNAL POST WERE APPROVED BY THE FOLLOWING <br /> <br />RECORDED VOTE. AYES: MR. BARBOUR, MR. FIFE, MR. GILLIAM, MRS. RINEHART AND <br /> <br />MR. VAN YAHRES. NOES: NONE. ON MOTION BY MR. FIFE, SECONDED BY MR. VAN YAHRES <br /> <br />THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS OFFERED AND CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT MEETING FOR <br />CONSIDERATION. <br /> <br /> <br />
