GILLIAM) <br /> <br /> ON MOTION THE MEETING ADJOURNED. <br /> <br />/ <br /> <br /> PNES I[~E~T <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />MATTERS BY THE PUBLIC <br /> <br />APPOINTMENT: <br />COMMISSION <br /> <br />AIRPORT <br /> <br />STAFF REPORT RE: <br />PARKING PROGRAM <br /> <br />PERMIT <br /> <br />STAFF REPORT: RE: <br />FUTURE USE OF MCGUFFEY <br />SCHOOL <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - TUESDAY, MAY 6, i975 <br /> <br /> THE COUNCIL .MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE <br />FOLLOWING MEMBERS PRESENT: MR. BARBOUR, MR. FIFE, MR. GILLIAM AND <br /> <br />MRS. RINEHART. ABSENT: MR. VAN YAHRES. <br /> <br /> THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF APRIL 21, 1975 WERE APPROVED AS <br />CORRECTED. <br /> <br /> MR. CARL NOLAND, ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND REQUESTED THE COUNCIL <br />TO CONSIDER ADOPTING A RESOLUTION INVITING AND WELCOMING ANY REFUGEES <br />FROM VIET NAM WHO MIGHT CONSIDER COMING TO' CHARLOTTESVILLE. MR. FIFE <br />STATED THAT LEGALLY THE COUNCIL SHOULD NOT ACT ON THIS MATTER AND <br />HE WOULD SUGGEST THAT THE COUNCIL NOT ADOPT A RESOLUTION, BUT <br /> IF THE MAYOR WISHES HE COULD SEND A LETTER WHICH HE WOULD ENDORSE. <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. FIFE, MR. K. W. HOWARD, WAS APPOINTED TO THE <br />AIRPORT COMMISSION FOR A THREE YEAR TERM, EXPIRING, DECEMBER 1, <br />1978. <br /> <br /> THE CITY MANAGER PRESENTED A REPORT FROM THE TRAFFIC ENGINEER <br /> OUTLINING EXPANSION OF THE PERMIT PARKING PROGRAM AND SUGGESTED AREAS <br /> FROM WHICH REQUESTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED FOR THIS PROGRAM. HE STATED <br /> THAT WE WERE COMMITTED TO AREA ONE WHICH IS AN EXTENSION OF THE <br /> PRESENT PERMIT PARKING ZONE AND RECOMMENDED THAT AN ORDINANCE BE <br /> ADOPTED TO IM-PLEMEN THIS EXPANSION. A NUMBER OF PEOPLE ADDRESSED <br /> THE COUNCIL IN FAVOR OF EXPANDING THE PERMIT PARKING TO THE OTHER <br /> PROPOSED AREAS. MR. FIFE. STATED THAT HE WOULD BE WILLING TO IMPLEMENT <br /> THIS PROGRAM IN THE OTHER AREAS IF EVIDENCE WAS PRESENTED THAT 75% <br /> OF THE RESIDENTS ARE IN FAVOR. AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED ''AN ORDINANCE <br /> TO AMEND AND REENACT SECTION 18-93.1 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br /> CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1965, RELATING TO PERMIT PARKING, '' WAS OFFERED <br /> BY MR. GILLIAM, SECONDED BY MRS. RINEHART AND CARRIED OVER TO THE <br /> NEXT MEETING FOR CONSIDERATION. <br /> <br /> MR. LUCIUS BRACEY, CHAIRMAN OF THE MCGUFFEY SCHOOL SITE COMMITTEE <br /> ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND STATED THAT THE COMMITTEE IS OF THE <br /> OPINION THAT THE MCGUFFEY SCHOOL BUILDING IS OUTSTANDING PHYSICALLY <br /> <br /> AND ARCHITECTURALLY AND SHOULD BE PRESERVED AND PROTECTED.
