NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Friday, January 24, 2003 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Buford Middle School. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE M AYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />BUFORD MIDDLE SCHOOL - January 24, 2003 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Mr. Caravati, Mr. Cox, Mr. Lynch, Ms. Richards, Mr. Schilling. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tim Flynn, Principal of Buford Middle Sc hool, introduced Buford Pride <br />Teams who made brief presentations to Council. He then showed a Lewis and Clark <br />video produced by Buford students. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ed Gillespie, Director of Finance for City Schools, gave a brief summary of <br />the School's proposed budget , noting that programmatically it has not changed from the <br />previous year. Staff salary increases are proposed to be 3 1/2%. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ron Hutchinson, Superintendent of City Schools, underscored the fact that <br />the quality of Charlottesville Schools is a direc t result of the community's support. <br /> <br /> Mr. Schilling said he would be interested in an analysis of the cost of housing in <br />Charlottesville versus teacher salaries. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Lynch, Mr. Gillespie explained that CATEC <br />has taken over adult education and it has been streamlined to be more in line with other <br />divisions. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Lynch, Mr. Hutchinson said that this is the <br />last year of the EvenStart grant. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox said he would like to receive a report about th e pre - school's integration <br />into the elementary schools, any insight from staff about whether it is working, and its <br />long - term future. <br /> <br /> The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />______________________________ ______________________________ <br />President Clerk <br />
