NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Monday, July 21, 2003 AT 6:00 p.m. IN THE Basement Conference Room. THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: Presentation: Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Design BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - July 21, 2003 Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Cox, Mr. Lynch, Ms. Richards, Mr. Schilling. Absent: Mr. Caravati. Councilo rs were presented preliminary designs for the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court renovation. Mr. O'Connell said that the Board of Supervisors has expressed its preference for the more traditional design. Mr. Cox said Councilors will be asked to stat e their design preference during "Other Business" at the regular meeting once Mr. Caravati has arrived. COUNCIL CHAMBER - July 21, 2003 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Caravati, Mr. Cox, Mr. Lynch, M s. Richards, Mr. Schilling. PUBLIC th Ms. Lelia Brown, 316 8 Street, N.W., presented a check for $500 to Council for the Community Scholarship Fund from the Jefferson School Alumni. th Mr. John Gaines, 214 9 Street, N.W., President of the WCEH Neighborh ood Association, said he brought concerns before Council at a recent meeting, and asked if he should look to Council or staff for a response. Mr. Gaines said he presented a petition to th th Council four years ago asking that the 9 /10 Street Connector be na med after Roosevelt Brown. He said it was his understanding that Council supports home ownership, but they seems to be more accommodating to rental property in the new zoning ordinance. He said a study presented in March showed a high percentage of stud ents failing the SOLs. He asked what type of resources is Council providing the School system to help with this issue.
