3
Ms. Richards said the services she hears most about throughout the year are traffic
calming, sidewalks, snow removal, large item pickup, police on the downtown mall and
dog related things such as the dog park. She said she would not want cuts in those
services.

Mr. Schilling said he has had calls about those services, but has also had calls
about taxes going up and he feels those need to be taken seriously and balanced with
those who do not want to give up a service.

Mr. Lynch said he does not support the increase in the E - 911 tax because he
thinks it is a regressive tax. He said he would support reducing the real estate tax rate by
2 cents.

Mr. O'Connell said that eliminating the E - 911 tax increase amounts to $500,000
a nd reducing the tax rate by 2 cents amounts to $600,000.
Mr. Caravati said he will commit to coming up with $1 million in cuts on his own
by Friday.

Mr. Schilling said he is not stuck on the $1 million figure, but feels that is a good
goal to work toward.

Mr. Lynch said he would rather have staff recommend cuts.

Mr. Cox said he would rather see some options rather than just cut $1 million. He
expressed concern that things such as McIntire Park improvements and Jefferson School
renovation could be on the table.

Mr. O'Connell said staff will provide Councilors with options to reduce the
budget by $1 million by increments.

Ms. Richards said she would like to know what is included in the budget for
traffic calming.

Mr. Caravati said he wants to find the e fficiencies and inefficiencies.

th
Council agreed to meet at 4:30 p.m. for the next work session on March 17 .

The meeting was adjourned.

______________________________ ______________________________
President Clerk
