SCRIBNER (SIGNED) <br /> PRE S I DE NT <br /> <br />J. S. RUSH, JR., (SIGNED) <br /> CLERK <br /> <br />THE COUNCIL MET IN SPECIAL SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS <br />PRESENTC HR. HAGGERTY, HR. LEE) ~R. HOUNT, MR. PONTON, AND HR. SCRIBNER. <br />ABSENT= NONE. <br /> <br /> THE CLERK REPORTED THAT A SYNOPSIS OF THE CITY AND SCHOOL BUDGETS FOR THE <br /> <br />FISCAL YEAR COMMENCING JULY 1~ ~96~ HAD BEEN PUBLISHED AND NOTICE OF A~PUBLIC <br />HEARING TO BE HELD ON THIS DATE HAD BEEN GIVEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION ~9 OF <br />THE CITY CHARTER. <br /> <br /> MRS. CLARK E. SNOOK~ SECRETARY OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE COUNCIL OF <br /> <br />ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL CALLING ATTENTION TO THE MATTER OF TEACHERS SALARIES. ~RS. <br />SNOOK STATED THAT THE Po T. A. COUNCIL HAD RECOMMENDED TO THE SCHOOL BOARD THAT THE <br />MINIMUM SALARIES BE INCREASED ~2~0o00 AND THE MAXIMUM BE INCREASED $300.00 AND RE- <br />QUESTED THE COUNCIL TO DEFER APPROVAL OF THE SCHOOL BUDGET TO GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY <br />~ DISCUSSING THIS MATTER FURTHER WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD. THE COUNCIL WAS OF THE OPINION <br /> <br />THAT THE ADOPTION OF THE BUDGETS SHOULD NOT BE DELAYED. AND~ ALSO DUE TO THE COST OF <br /> FROM THE ANNEXED AREA <br />OPERATING THE NEW SCHOOL WITHOUT ANY TAX ~UNOS' ,~HIS FISCAL YEAR AND THE DEFICIT OF <br /> <br />~68>000.00 IN THE PROPOSED SCHOOL BUDGET THE REQUESTED INCREASES COULD NOT BE GRANTED <br />WITHOUT A TAX INCREASE, WHICH WAS NOT CONSIDERED FEASIBLE AT THIS TIME. THE Po <br />COUNCIL WAS THANKED FOR THEIR INTEREST IN THE MATTER. <br /> <br /> A MOTION BY HR. LEE~ SECONDED BY MR. HOUNT, THAT THE CITY AND SCHOOL BUDGETS BE <br />ADOPTED AND A SYNOPSIS BE SPREAD IN THE MINUTES OF THIS MEETING, WAS UNANIMOUSLY <br />ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> <br />
