H, O~CLOCK. <br /> <br />1, PUBLIC HEARING - CITY AND SCHOOL BUDGETS FOR YEAR <br /> COMMENCING JULY 1~ 1962. <br /> <br />ANNUAL TAX LEVY <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF <br /> <br /> L. L. SCRIBNER (SIGNED) <br /> PRESIDENT <br /> <br />J S. RUSH, JR., (SIGNED) <br /> CLERK <br /> <br />THE COUNCIL MET IN SPECIAL SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS <br />PRESENT= HR° HAGGERTY~ HR, LEE~ HR, ~OUNT~ HR, PONTON~ AND HR, SCRIBNER. <br />ABSENT: NONE, <br /> <br /> THE CLERK REPORTED THAT A SYNOPSIS OF THE CITY AND SCHOOL BUDGETS FOR THE <br /> <br />FISCAL YEAR COMMENCING JULY 1~ 1962 HAD BEEN PUBLISHED AND NOTICE OF A~NPUBLtC <br />HEARING TO BE HELD ON THIS DATE HAD BEEN GIVEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 19 OF <br />THE CITY CHARTER, <br /> <br /> HRS. CLARK E. SNOOK~ SECRETARY OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE COUNCIL OF Po T, Ats~ <br />ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL CALLING ATTENTION TO THE MATTER OF TEACHERS SALARIES. HRS, <br />SNOOK STATED THAT THE P. T, A, COUNCIL HAD RECOMMENDED TO THE SCHOOL BOARD THAT THE <br />MINIMUM SALARIES BE INCREASED ~0,00 AND THE MAXIMUM BE INCREASED ~300,00 AND RE- <br />QUESTED THE COUNCIL TO DEFER APPROVAL OF THE SCHOOL BUDGET TO GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY <br />O~ DISCUSSING THIS MATTER FURTHER WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD, THE COUNCIL WAS OF THE OPINION <br /> <br />THAT THE ADOPTION OF THE BUDGETS SHOULD NOT BE DELAYED. AND~ ALSO DUE TO THE COST OF <br /> FROM THE ANNEXED AREA <br />OPERATING THE NEW SCHOOL WITHOUT ANY TAX F~NDS' ~HIS FISCAL YEAR AND THE DEFICIT OF <br /> <br />~8)000,00 IN THE PROPOSED SCHOOL BUDGET THE REQUESTED INCREASES COULD NOT BE GRANTED <br />WITHOUT A TAX INCREASE~ ~HICH WAS NOT CONSIDERED FEASIBLE AT THIS TIME. THE Po T, A. <br />COUNCIL WAS THANKED FOR THEIR INTEREST IN THE MATTER. <br /> <br /> A MOTION BY HR, LEE~ SECONDED BY HR° HOUNT~ THAT THE CITY AND SCHOOL BUDGETS BE <br />ADOPTED AND A SYNOPSIS BE SPREAD IN THE MINUTES OF THIS MEETING~ WAS UNANIMOUSLY <br />ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> <br />
