SCRIBNER. <br />~BSENT: NONE. <br /> <br /> THE MIN:U~£S OF THE MEETING OF JANUARY 4, 1965 WERE READ AND APPROVED, <br /> <br /> A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON THIS DATE ON A PROPOSAL TO AMEND THE ZONING <br />ORDINANCE TO CHANGE THE HEIGHT LIMIT OF BUILDINGS FROM STORIES TO FEET. MR, R. [. <br />LEE ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND REeUESTED THAT'THE HEIGHT LIMIT FOR R-3 DISTRICTS <br />BE SET AT EIGHTY-FIVE (85) FEET INSTEAD OF THE PROPOSED EIGHTY FEET. HR. JAMES <br />M~MARSHALL REQUESTED THAT THE HEIGHT BE MEASURED FROM THE AVERAGE STREET LEVEL <br />INSTEAD OF THE LOWEST STREET LEVEL. A PROPOSED ORDINANCE WAS PRESENTED~ HOWEVER, <br />ON MOTION BY MR, ~CRISNER, SECONDED BY HR. PONTON9 THIS MATTER WAS TABLED UNTIL <br />THE-NEXT REGULAR MEETING. <br /> <br /> MR. DARDEN TOWN ADDRESSED THE COUNCt:L ON BEHALF OF THE JUNIOR CHAMBER OF <br />COMMERCE AND AGAIN REQUESTED PERMISSION TO ERECT A TRAFFIC FATALITY SIGN. A <br />MOTION BY HR. ~ENNOLDS, SECONDED BY MR. SCRIBNER THAT THE REQUEST BE GRANTED <br />WITH THE PROVISO THAT THE SIGN BE PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND THE LOCATION OF THE <br />SIGN TO BE DETERMINED BY THE STREET COMMITTEE AND A COMMITTEE FROM THE J CE, <br />WAS UNANIMOUSLY .ADOPTED, <br /> <br /> THE REQUEST OF ~UMBLE OIL ~NO REFINING COMPANY TO OPERATE A GASOLINE <br /> <br /> FILLING STATION ON LONG STREET WAS AGAINCONS,IDERED. No ONE APPEARED FOR OR <br /> AGAINST THE REQUEST. A MOTTON BY MR, HAGGERTY, SECONDED BY HR. SCRIBNER, THAT <br /> THE FOREGOING REQUEST BE GRANTED~ WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> HR. ED R. SLAUGHTER ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND REQUESTED THAT CONSIDERATION <br /> <br /> BE GIVEN TO THE ~URCHASE OF SOME LAND NEAR GREENBRIER DRIVE FOR RECREATIONAL <br /> PURPOSES. AFTER A LENGTHY DISCUSSION, A MOTION BY MR. RENNOLDS, SECONDED BY <br /> HR. HAGGERTY THAT AN ENGINEERING STUDY BE MADE TO DETERMINE IF THE LAND IS <br /> USABLE.AND FURTHER CONSIDERATION BE GIVEN TO THE PURCHASE OF THIS LAND WAS <br /> UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> A COMHUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE MICHIE COMPANY AGREEING TO RECODtFY <br /> AND RE-EDIT THE CITY CODE OF 1959 FOR A FEE OF ~3,800.00. THE COMMITTEE APPOINTEO <br /> <br /> TO INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER RECOMMENDED THE ACCEPTANCE OF THIS PROPOSAL. ON MOTION <br /> BY MR, SCRIBNER~ SECONDED BY MR. HAGGERTY, THE FOREGOING RECOMHENDATION WAS <br /> UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM MONTAGUE--MILLER AND COMPANY REQUESTING <br /> <br /> THAT HILL~OOO PLACE~ FROM KERRY LANE SOUTH TO ITS TERMINUS~ BE ACCEPTED INTO THE <br /> CITY STREET SYSTEM FOR MAINTENANCE. THE STREET COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED ITS <br /> ACCEPTANCE. ON MOTION BY MR. RENNDLDS~ SECONDED BY MR. PONTON, THE RECOMMENDATION <br /> OF THE .STREET COMHITTEE WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR, SCRIBNER~ SECONDED BY MR. IT HAS NEVER <br /> BEEN CONSTRUCTED TO MEET CITY STANDARDS AND THEREFORE IS NOT IN THE CITY <br /> STREET SYSTEM FOR MAINTENANCE. THERE IS AN OPEN STREAM IN A PART OF THE <br /> RIGHT OF ~AY AND THIS STREAM IS RESTRICTED AT STORM PERIODS BY A SMALL <br /> PIPE V~ICH HAS BEEN INSTALLED IN THE STREAM IN FRONT OF HOUSE AT -610. <br /> THis RESTRICTION CAUSES THE ~ATER TO FLOW OUT INTO THE USABLE PORTION OF <br /> <br /> <br />
