HAGGERTY, SECONDED BY MRo .SCRIBNER~ THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THIS COUNCIL HAS BEEN ADVISED THAT THE PROPOSED BUDGET FOR THE <br />OPERATION OF THE STATE DURING THE ~966-68 BIENNIUM DOES NOT PROVIDE NECESSARY FUNDS <br />FOR AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS~ AND <br /> <br /> WHER[AS~ THE DIVISION OF AERONAUTICS OF THE STATE CORPORATION COMHISSlON <br /> <br />HAS RECEIVED REQUESTS FOR ABOUT FOUR AND ONE-HALF MILLION DOLLARS TO MATCH LOCAL <br />EXPENDITURES FOR AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT) AND <br /> <br /> ~E~EAS~ FUNDS IN THE PROPOSED BUDGET TO BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE <br /> <br />DIVISION OF AERONAUTICS AMOUNTS TO LESS THAN ONE MILLION DOLLARS, AND <br /> <br /> ~A~HEREAS, THIS CITY, JOINTLY WITH THE COUNTY OF ALBEMARLE~ HAS RECEIVED <br />APPROVAL FROM THE FEDERAL AVIATION AGENCY FOR A PROJECT TO LENGTHEN, WIDEN AND <br />IMPROVE THE CHARLOTTESVILLE-ALBEMARLE AIRPORT SO THAT THE FACILITY WILL BE ABLE <br /> <br />TO HANDLE JET AIRCRAFT WHICH ARE SOON TO BE PLACED IN SERVICE BY PIEDMONT AIRLINES, <br />AND TO HANDLE OTHER LARGE AIRCRAFT WHICH DESIRE TO USE THE CHARLOTTESVILLE-ALBEMARLE <br />AIRPORTy AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THIS PROJECT IS ESTIMATED TO COST APPROXIMATELY ~500~000.00 WITH <br /> <br />~0~ OF THE FUNDS TO'BE PROVIDED BY FAA AND THE REMAINING ~0~ TO BE PROVIDED ONE-HALF <br />FROM STATE FUNDS AND ONE-HALF FROM LOCAL FUNDS, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ THE CHANGING TO THE USE OF JET AIRCRAFT BY PIEDMONT AIRLINES WILL <br />MAKE tT MANDATORY THAT MOST ALL AIRPORTS IN VIRGINIA USED BY THEM BE IMPROVED IN <br />ORDER TO HANDLE THESE HEAVIER AIRCRAFT, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ AIRPORTS ARE VERY NECESSARY IN ORDER TO SECURE DESIRABLE INDUSTRY <br /> <br />IN THE STATE~ <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />THAT GOVERNOR MILLS E. GODWIN BE AND HE IS HEREBY RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED TO RECOMMEND <br /> <br />TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY THAT ADDITIONAL FUNDS BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE STATE CORPORATION <br />COMMISSION~ DIVISION OF AERONAUTICS, SO AS TO ENABLE THAT DEPARTMENT TO SHARE IN THE <br />COST OF THESE NEEDED IMPROVEMENTS~ AND <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE SENT TO SENATOR <br /> <br />E.
