RESOLUTION RE: COMMUNITY <br />RELATIONS COMMITTEE <br /> <br />MATTER RE: HOUSE BILL 516 <br />AND SENATE BILLS 257, 243, <br />271, 256 & 258 <br /> <br />MATTER RE: HOUSE BILL 407 <br /> <br />WELFARE REPORT PRESENTED <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE HAVE <br /> <br />SERVED SINCE dUNE 14, 1963 AND HAVE NOW DISBANDEDj AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, IT IS THE OPINION OF THIS COUNCIL THAT THE CITIZENS OF <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE HAVE BENEFITED. GREATLY FROM THE INFLUENCE AND ACCOMPLISH- <br />MENTS OF THIS COMMITTEEj AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, MANY OF THE COMMITTEEIS ACHIEVEMENTS HAVE NOT RECEIVED <br />PUBLICITY BUT HAVE BECOME APPARENT THROUGH THE ADVANCING COOPERATION AND <br />COORDINATION OF OUR COMMUNITY SPIRIT, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT THIS COUNCIL EXPRESSES ITS APPRECIATION TO EACH <br />MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMHITTEE FOR THE MANY HOURS AND HELP- <br />FUL AND SINCERE EFFORTS THAT EACH~MEMBER HAS GIVEN TO THIS COMMUNITY <br />WHICH HAVE SO MATERIALLY ASSISTED OUR CITY IN MAKING OUTSTANDING PROGRESS <br />IN THE FIELD OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS. <br /> <br /> THE CITY MANAGER ADVISED THE COUNCIL OF SOME PROPOSED LEGISLATION BEFORE THE <br />GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE COUNCIL GO ON RECORD AS OPPOSING HOUSE <br />BILL 516 AND SENATE BILLS 257, 243, 271, 256 AND 258, AND SUPPORT HOUSE BILL 407. <br />A MOTION BY MR. RENNOLDS, SECONDED BY MR. SCRIBNER THAT THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY <br />ATTORNEY BE REQUESTED TO PREPARE AND TRANSMIT TO OUR SENATOR AND ~ELEGATE A <br />RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE AFOREHENTIONED BILLS WAS ADOPTED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: <br />AYES: MR. MOUNT, MR. PONTON~ MR~ RENNOLDS AND MR. SCRIBNER. NOES: NONE. (MR. <br />HAGGERTY NOT VOTING). <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. HAGGERTY, SECONDED BY MR. SCRIBNER~ THE CITY MANAGER AND <br />CiTY ATTORNEY WERE REQUESTED TO PREPARE AND T.RANSMIT A' RESOLUTION SUPPORTING <br />HOUSE BILL 407. <br /> <br /> THE WELFARE REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY7 t966 WAS PRESENTED AND ORDERED <br /> <br />FILED WITH THE MINUTES OF THIS MEETING. <br /> ON MOTION THE MEETING ADJOURNED. <br /> <br />CLER k} <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - MARCH 7, 1966 <br /> <br /> THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS <br /> PRESENT: MR. HAGGERTY, MR. MOUNT, MR. PONTON, MR. RENNOLDS AND MR. SCRIBNER. <br /> <br />'ABSENT: NONE. <br /> <br /> THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF FEBRUARY 21, 1966 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br /> <br /> A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON THIS DATE ON A PETITION TO REZONE TWO LOTS ON <br /> CHARRY AVENUE FROM R-2 RESIDENTIAL TO B-2 BUSINESS. NO ONE APPEARED FOR OR AGAINST <br /> THE REQUEST. AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING THE <br /> <br /> DISTRICT HAP INCORPORATED IN SECTION 4 OF ARTICLE III OF APPENDIX II OF THE CODE <br /> OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVlLLE~ 1965, BY THE REZONING OF TWO PARCELS OF LAND <br /> FRONTING 146 FEET ON THE NORTH SIDE OF CHERRY AVENUE RUNNING BACK TO KING STREET", <br /> <br /> WAS OFFERED BY MR. HAGGERTY~ SECONDED BY MR. PONTON, AND CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT <br /> MEETING FOR CONSIDERATION. <br /> <br /> MRS. JAMES R. CASH ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL ON BEHALF OF THE CIvic LEAGUE AND <br /> REQUESTED PERMISSION TO INSTALL FLOOD LIGHTS TO LIGHT THE STATUE OF GENERAL STONEWALL <br /> JACKSON~ AND ALSO, THE ASSISTANCE OF THE CITY IN DOING THE CONSTRUCTION WORK TO SET <br /> THE LIGHTS. ON MOTION BY MR. SCRIBNER, SECONDED BY MR. HAGGERTY~ THIS MATTER WAS <br /> REFERRED TO THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY ELECTRICIAN FOR RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br /> <br />
