DAVIS <br /> <br />REQUEST RE: RELIEF FROM <br />PENALTY DENIED <br /> <br />REPORT RE: RETIREMENT PLAN <br />COMMISSION AMENDMENT <br /> <br />REPORT RE: LIFE INSURANCE- <br />CitY EMPLOYEES. <br /> <br />A REQUEST FOR A COUNTY WATER AND SEWER CONNECTION WAS PRESENTED FROM <br /> <br />R. M. DAVIS MOTORS ON ROUTE 29, NORTH. THE CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDED THAT <br />THE REQUEST BE GRANTED UNDER THE USUAL'.TERMS AND CONDITIONS. ON MOTION BY <br />MR. RENNOLDS, SECONDED BY MR. SCRIBNER, THE FOREGOING RECOMMENDATION WAS <br /> <br />UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM ECONO-CAR INTERNATIONAL REQUESTING RELIEF <br /> <br />FROM THE PENALTY ON ITS DELINQUENT PERSONAL PROPERTY TAXES. THE CITY ATTORNEY <br /> AND CITY <br />ADVISED THE COUNCIL THAT THE STATE/CODES REQUIRE THE ASSESSMENT OF PENALTIES ON <br /> <br />DELINQUENT TAXES. ON MOTION BY MR. SCRIBNER, SECONDED BY MR. HAGGERTY~ THE <br /> <br />CLERK WAS INSTRUCTED TO SO ADVISE THE APPLICANT. <br /> <br /> A REPORT WAS PRESENTED FROM THE RETIREMENT PLAN COMMISSION RECOMMENDING THE <br /> <br />AMENDMENT OF THE RETIREMENT PLAN ORDINANCE TO ADJUST THE MONTHLY BENEFITS. ON <br /> <br />MOTION BY MR. SCRIBNER, SECONDED BY MR. PONTON, THE FOREGOING RECOMMENDATION WAS <br /> <br />UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED, AND THE CITY ATTORNEY WAS INSTRUCTED TO PREPARE THE PROPER <br /> <br />ORDINANCE. <br /> <br /> THE FOLLOWING REPORT WAS PRESENTED FROM THE RETIREMENT PLAN COMMISSION RE- <br />COMMENDING AN ADJUSTMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF LIFE INSURANCE PROVIDED TO EACH CITY <br /> <br />EMPLOYEE: <br /> <br />JULY 15, 1966 <br /> <br />To THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL <br />CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VI~RGINIA <br /> <br />GENTLEMEN: <br /> <br /> AT A MEETING OF THE RETIREMENT PLAN COMMISSION ON JULY 15~ 1966 <br />THE COMMISSION VOTED TO RECOMMEND TO THE CITY COUNCIL THAT THE AMOUNT OF <br />LIFE INSURANCE TO BE PROVIDED EACH CITY EMPLOYEE BE AS FOLLOWS, EFFECTIVE <br />AUGUST 1, 1966: <br /> <br /> SALARIED EMPLOYEES EARNING UP TO AND INCLUDING ~4500.00, <br /> AND ALL EMPLOYEES WHO ARE PAID ON AN HOURLY OR WEEKLY <br /> ...... ~5,000.00 <br /> BASIS .................. <br /> <br />SALARIED EMPLOYEES EARNING OVER ~4500.00 UP TO AND <br />INCLUDING ~7500.00 PER YEAR <br /> <br />SALARIED EMPLOYEES EARNING OVER ~7500.00 UP TO AND <br />INCLUDING ~lO,O00. O0 PER YEAR .......... <br /> <br />SALARIED EMPLOYEES EARNING MORE THAN ~'t0,000.00 <br />PER YEAR ............... ° ' <br /> <br />7,500.00 <br /> <br />10,000.00 <br /> <br />.... 12,500.00 <br /> <br /> THE ABOVE INSURANCE BENEFITS WOULD DECREASE 2~ EACH MONTH AFTER AGE <br />65 UNTIL THE AMOUNT OF INSURANCE AMOUNTED TO 1/2 OF THE ORIGINAL BENEFIT <br />WHICH WOULD CONTINUE AS A PERMANENT BENEFIT AFTER RETIREMENT. <br /> <br />THE AMOUNT OF EACH EMPLOYEE15 INSURANCE WOULD BE DETERMINED EACH <br />JULY 1ST AND NO INCREASE OR DECREASE IN THE AMOUNT OF HIS POLICY WOULD BE <br />MADE DURING THE FISCAL YEAR EXCEPT AS SET FORTH ABOVE FOR OVER AGE 65. <br /> <br /> No EMPLOYEE WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR INSURANCE UNDER THIS POLICY UNTIL <br />HE HAD COMPLETED 6 CONTINUOUS MONTHS OF SERVICE WITH THE CITY. <br /> <br /> WE ALSO RECOMMEND THAT IF SAT$SFACTORY ARRANGEMENTS CAN BE MADE WITH <br />THE iNSURANCE COMPANY THAT EACH EMPLOYEE OR GROUP OF EMPLOYEES BE ALLOWED <br />TO PURCHASE UP TO 100~ OF ADDITIONAL INSURANCE AT THE RATE OF ~0.70 PER <br />MONTH FOR EACH ~lO00. OO OF INSURANCE. <br /> <br /> WE ESTIMATE THAT THE YEARLY COST TO THE CITY FOR THE FOREGOING WOULD <br />BE APPROXIMATELY $t8~000.00 PER YEAR INSTEAD OF THE PRESENT ESTIMATED COST <br />OF ~8,000.00. <br /> <br />RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED, <br /> <br />L.
