ATTENTION WAS CALLED TO THE
FACT THAT VACANT LAND IN PARCELS LARGE ENOUGH FOR A SCHOOL SITE ARE DI=FFICULT TO FIND.
IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT STEPS BE TAKEN TO ACQUIRE THE LAND NECESSARY TO MEET THE FORE-
SEEABLE SCHOOL BUILDING NEEDS.

AS A FIRST STEP IN IMPLEMENTING THAT RECOMMENDATION THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY SCHOOL
BOARD RECOMMENDS THE PURCHASE OF AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SITE IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE
CITY. THE PROPOSED SITE SHOULD BE LOCATED TO SERVE A PART OF THE AREA PRESENTLY SERVED
BY JOHNSON SCHOOL. JN VIEW OF THE PRESENT AND PROBABLY FUTURE NEED FOR LAND~ A SITE OF
AT LEAST FIFTEEN ACRES 1S RECOMMENDED.

THERE PROBABLY IS NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT SCHOOL SITE. EVERY LOCATION HAS
CERTAIN ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES. THUS, SITE SELECTION IS A PROCESS OF WEIGHING
THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF POSSIBLE LOCATIONS~ AND SELECTING THE LOCATION
WHICH APPEARS TO OFFER THE MOST ADVANTAGES AND THE FEWEST DISADVANTAGES° SCHOOL SITES
SELECTED TODAY PROBABLY WILL BE IN USE FOR FIFTY YEARS OR MORE. THEREFORE> EVERY EFFORT
MUST BE MADE TO CONSIDER PROBABLE FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS AS WELL AS THE PRESENT SITUATION.
