MOUNT ASKED IF THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA <br />OFFICIALS HAD BEEN CONTACTED AS TO THEIR VIEWS, ON MOTION BY MR, HAGGERTY~ SECONDED BY <br />MR, VOGT~ THIS MATTER WAS CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT MEETING FOR CONSIDERATION. <br /> THE REQUEST FOR REZON1NG LOTS 9 - 14 CARLTON ADDITION WAS AGAIN CONSIDERED. A MOTION <br /> BY MR, VOGT~ SECONDED BY MR, HAGGERTY~ THAT ON RECOMMENDATION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION <br /> THE REQUEST BE DENIED~ WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> ON MOTION BY MR, MOUNT~ SECONDED BY MR. VOGT~ UTILITIES WERE GRANTED FOR THE 20 ACRE <br /> TRACT OF LAND AT HYDRAULIC AND GEORGETOWN ROADS WITH THE LAND USE RESTRICTED TO R-3 MULTIPLE <br /> DWELLING EXCEPT TWO PARCELS OF B-~ BUSINESS, <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM MR, G. G, FORMES COMPLAINING ABOUT THE HAZARDOUS <br /> CONSTRUCTION OF OLD LYNCHBURG ROAD, THE CITY MANAGER ADVISED MR, FORMES THAT WHEN THE <br /> STATE COMPLETES ITS WORK ON 1-64 THE CITY WILL ATTEMPT TO IMPROVE THIS ROAD AS MUCH AS <br /> <br />POSSIBLE. <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM DOWNTOWN CHARLOTTESVILLE~ ~NC. REQUESTING PERMISSION <br />FOR THE MERCHANTS TO HOLD A SIDEWALK SALE ON JULY 7 AND 8 AND A PARADE OF ANTIQUE AuTOMOBiLES <br />ON JULY 8. ON MOTION BY MR, VOGT~ SECONDED BY MR, HAGGERTY~ THE FOREGOING REQUESTS WERE <br /> <br />APPROVED, <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE INTERSTATE COMMERCE COMMISSION ADVISING DATES <br />OF PUBLIC HEARINGS ON SOUTHERN RAILWAY~COMPANYtS APPLICATION TO DISCONTINUE TWO PASSENGER <br />TRAINS. ON MOTION BY MR. HAGGERTY7 SECONDED BY MR. MOUNT7 THE CLERK WAS INSTRUCTED TO <br />FORWARD A COPY OF THE RESOLUTION ADOPTED ON MAY ~5~ ~9~7 TO THE COMMISSIONER HOLDING THE <br /> <br />HEARINGS. <br /> PETITIONS FOR REZONtNG ON STRIBLING AVENUE AND A PARCEL OF LAND NORTH OF ALLIED STREET <br />WERE REFERRED TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION FOR RECOMMENDATION- <br /> THE FOLLOWING REPORT OF THE STREET COMMITTEE WAS PRESENTED: <br /> MAY 31~ 1967 ~ <br /> <br />STREET COMMITTEE <br />REPORT RE: TR..A:FF_I C- <br />OXFORO RD.' ~X:~0 <br /> <br />To THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL <br />CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE.~ VIRGINIA <br /> <br />GENTLEMEN: <br /> WE HAVE EXAMINED THE REQUESTS THAT THE TRAFFIC FLOW OR PARKING ON OXFORD ~OAD <br />AND ON 2ND STREET~ EAST BE CHANGED BECAUSE THESE STREETS ARE NOT WIDE ENOUGH FOR <br />TWO-WAY TRAFFIC AND PARKING ON ONE SIDE. <br /> NO DOUBT THE TRAFFIC FLOW W~ LD BE IMPROVED ON THESE STREETS IF EITHER THE <br />PARKING WAS COMPLETELY REMOVED OR THEY WERE MADE ONE-WAY STREETS~ HOWEVER~ WE DO <br />NOT BELIEVE THAT THE TRAFFIC VOLUME AT THE PRESENT TIME dUSTIFIES THIS ACTION <br />WHICH WOULD CAUSE MUCH INCONVENIENCE TO THE RESIDENTS WHO LIVE ON THESE STREETS.i: <br />THE TRAFFIC FLOW WILL BE WATCHED AND IF IT INCREASES ONE OF THE ABOVE MEASURES WIL.L <br />BE RECOMMENDED, <br /> <br /> WE HAVE7 HOWEVER7 REMOVED SOME OF THE PARKING ON OXFORD ROAD NEAR RUGB~ ROAD <br /> FOR SAFETY REASONS, <br /> <br /> YOUR COMMITTEE HAS ALSO INVESTIGATED THE REQUEST THAT PARKING ON ONE SIDE OF <br /> CLEVELAND AVENUE~ BETWEEN WOODLAND DRIVE AND WILLARD DRIVE~ BE AGAIN PERMITTiED, <br /> THE MAJORITY OF THE COMMITTEE FEELS THAT THIS REQUEST SHOULD NOT BE GRANTED !FOR THE <br /> FOLLOWING REASON. <br /> <br /> CLEVELAND AVENUE AT THIS LOCATION IS ONLY ~7 FEET WIDE BETWEEN CURBS AND IS NOT <br /> WIDE ENOUGH TO PERMIT PAR~ING AND TO gARRY THE APPROXIMATELY 37000 VEHICLES WHICH <br /> ARE NOW USING THIS STREET DALLY AND WHICH WILL INCREASE. <br /> <br />RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED: <br /> <br /> STREET COMMITTEE <br />Go A.
