PETITION RE: CLOSING <br />SECTIONS OF SONOMA, <br />STONEHENGE, CLYDE STS. <br />REFERRED TO PLANN. COMM. <br /> <br />REQUESTS RE: WESTWOOD RD. <br />& ALTAVISTA AVE. REFERRED <br />TO PLANN. COMM, <br /> <br />TO HOLD JOINT PUBLIC HEARINGS WITH THE PROVISO THAT THE COUNCIL COULD <br />NOT'-TAKE OFFICIAL ACTION ON SUCH MATTERS UNTIL THEIR NEXT REGULAR MEETING <br />AT WHICH TIME THE PLANNING COMMISSIONIS RECOMMENDATION WOULD BE PRESENTED. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT SENATOR-ELECT ~JAMES H. MICHAEL, JR., AND DELEGATE <br /> C. ARMONDE PAXSON BE AND THEY ARE HEREBY RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED TO <br /> INTRQDUCE AND ENDORSE LEGISLATION WHICH WILL AMEND SECTION 15.1-Z~93 OF <br /> THE CODE OF VIRGINIA SO AS TO ENABLE THE COUNCI'L AND PLANNING COMMISSION <br /> TO HOLD JOINT PUBLIC HEARINGS ON ZONING AND SUBDIVISION MATTERS if THE <br /> COUNCIL DEEMS IT ADVISABLE AND FOR THE PUBLIC CONVENIENCE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THIS COUNCIL IS OF THE OPINION THAT THE PRESENT LAWS OF <br /> <br /> THE COMHONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA ARE NOT SUFFICIENT TO HELP PREVENT RIOTS, <br /> PREVENT THE DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY AND TO PROTECT THE CITIZENS OF THIS <br /> STATE FROM CIVIL DISORDER, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT SENATOR-ELECT JAMES H. MI CHAEL, JR.,'AND DELEGATE <br /> C. ARMONDE PAXSON BE AND THEY ARE HEREBY RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED TO <br /> ENDORSE AND SUPPORT LEGISLATION WHICH WILL SUFFICIENTLY STRENGTHEN THE LAWS <br /> OF THIS COMMONWEALTH 'I'M ORDER TO HELP PREVENT RIOTS, THE WANTON DESTRUCTION <br /> OF PROPERTY AND INJURY TO THE CITIZENS OF THIS COMMONWEALTH RESULTING FROM <br /> CIVIL DISORDER AND, TO FiX JUST PUNISHMENT FOR THOSE WHO VIOLATE THE LAWS <br /> AND CREATE CIVIL DISORDER. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE <br /> OFFICIAL 1970 CENSUS TAKING IS EXPECTED TO HAVE AN <br /> OFFICIAL POPULATION 'DESIGNATED AT MORE THAN ~),000 AND WILL, ACCORDINGLY, <br /> AT THAT TINE BE REQUIRED UNDER EXISTING PROVISIONS OF VIRGINIA LAW (SEC. <br /> 24-164 OF THE CODE OF VIRGINIA 1950) TO EMPLOY A SEPARATE CLERK FOR THE <br /> CIRCUIT COURT OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESV1LLE~ AND <br /> WHEREAS, IT APPEARS THAT CERTAIN CITIES SUCH AS DANVILLE, <br /> <br /> ROANOKE~ LYNCHBURG AND PETERSBURG HAVE BEEN MADE EXEMPT FROM THE REQUIRE- <br /> <br /> MENT OF SEC. 24-164, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ IT APPEAaS THAT THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE~ LIKE THOSE <br /> <br /> CITIES NAMED, WILL NOT NEED AN ADDITIONAL AND SEPARATE CLERK FOR SUCH COURT, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT SENATOR-ELECT JAMES Ho HI CHAEL~ JR., AND DELEGATE <br /> C. ARMONDE PAXSON BE AND THEY ARE HEREBY REQUESTED TO PRESENT THE NECESSARY <br /> BILL AMENDING THE FOREGOING SECTION iN THE 19(~8 GENERAL ASSEMBLY SO AS TO <br /> INCLUDE THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE AS ONE OF THE EXCEPTED CITIES ENUMERATED <br /> IN SEC. 24-164 so THAT THE CITY WiLL NOT BE REQUIRED TO HAVE A SPEARATE CLERK <br /> FOR ITS CIRCUIT COURT. tT IS ALSO REQUESTED THAT SEC. t7.118.1 BE AMENDED SO <br /> AS TO DESIGNATE THE CLERK OF THE CIRCUIT COURT OF ALBEMARLE COUNTY TO ACT AS <br /> CLERK OF THE CIRCUIT COURT OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE- THE DESIGNATED <br /> CLERK SHALL BE COMPENSATED BY FEES AS PROVIDED BY THE CODE OF VIRGINIA. <br /> A REQUEST FROI~I MR. PERCY Eo THOMAS TO CLOSE PORTIONS OF UNOPENED SONOMA STREET <br /> AND AN UNOPENED ALLEY ADJACENT THERETO, PORTIONS OF UNOPENED STONEHENGE AVENUE AND <br /> A SMALL PORTION OF UNOPENED CLYDE STREET, WAS REFERRED TO THE PLANNING COMHISSION <br /> FOR RECOMMENDAT I ON. <br /> <br /> REQUESTS FOR REZONING AT 1500 WESTWOOD ROAD AND AT 1016 ALTAVISTA AVENUE WERE <br /> REFERRED TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION FOR RECONHENDATION, <br /> <br /> <br />
