COMM. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION RE: ROUTE 250 <br />LIMITED ACCESS. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION CLOSING <br />ALLEY BETWEEN EARLY <br />AVON STS. <br /> <br /> THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS <br />PRESENT: MR. HAGGERTY~ MR. MOUNT~ MR. RENNOLDS, MR. RINEHART AND MR. VOGT. ABSENT: NONE. <br /> DR, S. H. LANDRETH, PASTOR OF THE CHURCH OF GOD~ GAVE THE INVOCATION. <br /> THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF FEBRUARY 5, 1968 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br /> MR. W, R, BINGLER~ JR. ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND REQUESTED THAT CONSIDERATION BE <br />GIVEN TO FURNISHING SOME FREE PARKING SPACES NEAR CITY HALL FOR PEOPLE TRANSACTING <br />BUSINESS AT CiTY HALL. HE SUGGESTED THE SPACES ON FIFTH STREET BETWEEN MARKET AND <br />MAIN STREETS. MR. HAGGERTY REMINDED MR. BINGLER THAT THE NEW CITY HALL IS ADJACENT TO <br />A SIZEABLE PARKING LOT. MR. MOUNT COMMENTED THAT PARKING HAS BEEN PROVIDED FOR THE <br />PUBLIC TRANSACTING BUSINESS AT THE NEW CITY HALL. MR. BINGLER ALSO REQUESTED THAT <br />CONSIDERATION BE GIVEN TO INCREASING THE SIZE OF CITY COUNCIL, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS <br />WOULD TAKE A CHARTER AMENDMENT AND COULD NOT BE ACCOMPLISHED THIS YEAR. <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM DOWNTOWN CHARLOTTESVILLE~ ]NC, REQUESTING THAT <br /> PAYMENT OF RETAIL AND WHOLESALE MERCHANTS AND PROFESSIONAL LICENSES BE PERMITTED ON <br /> A QUARTERLY BASIS. MR. ROBERT H. GARVER~ EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR~ ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL <br /> AND DISCUSSED THE PROPOSAL. THiS MATTER WAS REFERRED TO THE FINANCE COMMITTEE FOR <br /> RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br /> A REQUEST FOR REZONING AT THE CORNER OF GILLESPIE AVENUE AND E. HIGH STREET WAS <br /> REFERRED TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION FOR RECOMMENDATION. <br /> ON MOTION BY HR. HOUNT~ SECONDED BY HR. RENNOLDS, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS <br /> UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br /> <br /> THAT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AUTHORITY CONFERRED uPON THE CITY BY <br /> SECTION 15.1-16, CODE OF V~RGINIA, ROUTE 250A PROJECT #7250-104- <br /> 101~ RW-201 FROM 0.117 MILES EAST OF MCiNTIRE ROAD TO 0.344 NILES <br /> WEST OF INTERSECTION ROUTE 29 BE AND THE SANE IS HEREBY ESTABLISHED <br /> AS A LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAY AS IS SHOWN ON THE PLANS FOR THIS <br /> PROJECT AND AS PREPARED BY THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE PORTION OF ROUTE 250A EAST <br /> <br /> OF 0.117 MILES EAST OF MClNTIRE ROAD WHICH WAS ESTABLISHED AS A <br /> LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAY BY RESOLUTION OF THIS COUNCIL ON JULY 9, <br /> 1952 CONTINUE AS A LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAY. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. RINEHART~ SECONDED BY MRo RENNOLDS, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION <br /> WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE PROPERTY OWNERS OWNING ABUTTING PROPERTY ON A CERTAIN <br /> <br /> ALLEY LOCATED BETWEEN EARLY STREET AND AVON STREET AS HEEEINAFTER DESCRIBED~ <br /> HAVE REQUESTED THAT SUCH ALLEY BE CLOSED~ AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE CiTY PLANNING COMMISSION BY REPORT TO COUNCIL DATED <br /> <br /> FEBRUARY 15, 1968 HAS RECOMMENDED SUCH CLOSING~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE IS WILLING TO <br /> <br /> CLOSE AND VACATE THE ALLEY AS,RECOMMENDED <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREEORE~ BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT THE ALLEY WHICH DIVIDES INTO TWO PARTS A CITY <br /> BLOCK THAT IS BOUNDED ON FOUR SIDES BY DRUID AVENUE, AVON STREET~ <br /> STONEHENGE AVENUE AND EARLY STREET BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY CLOSED <br /> AND VACATED; AND THAT THIS VACATION SHALL NOT EXTINGUISH EXISTING <br /> UTILITY LINE EASEMENTS FOR TELEPHONE, ELECTRIC AND To V. CABLE LINES <br /> <br /> <br />
