HAGGERTY, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br /> <br /> THAT THE CHARLOTTESVILLE VOLUNTARY FIRE COMPANY AND THE CHARLOTTES- <br /> VILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT BE COMMENDED AND SINCERELY THANKED FOR THE <br /> EFFICIENT JOB OF CONTAINING AND EXTINGUISHING THE FIRE AT THE <br /> M. C. THOMAS FURNITURE COMPANY ON MARCH 31, 1968. <br /> <br /> THE CITY MANAGER INFORMED THE COUNCIL THAT THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT HAS <br />ADVISED THAT AN EASEMENT IS NEEDED ON A SMALL PARCEL OF LAND OWNED BY THE CITY TO <br />CHANGE THE CHANNEL OF MOORES CREEK iN CONNECTION WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF 1-64. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. MOUNTs SECONDED BY MR. VOGT, THE MAYOR WAS AUTHORIZED TO EXECUTE <br />AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT FOR THIS EASEMENT. <br /> <br /> THE CITY ATTORNEY REPORTED TO COUNCIL CONCERNING POSSIBLE ACTION THAT MIGHT <br /> <br />BE TAKEN WITH RESPECT TO CHANGES iN THE STATE SUNDAY BLUE LAWS. THE PARTICULAR <br />QUESTION INVOLVED SALE OF QUILL PENS ON SUNDAY. HIS RECOMMENDATION WAS TO THE <br />EFFECT THAT COUNCIL TAKE NO ACTION AT THE PRESENT TIME PRIMARILY BECAUSE THE LAW, <br />AS IT IS NOW WRITTEN~ WOULD APPARENTLY ALLOW THE SALE OF QUILL PENS ON SUNDAY <br />BECAUSE IN HIS OPINION THEY ARE CUSTOMARILY SOLD AS NOVELTIES OR SOUVENIRS.
