MOUNT, AND CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT MEETING FOR <br />CONSIDERATION. <br /> <br /> THE MAYOR INTRODUCED RONNIE HAMM, STUDENT MAYOR~ WHO PRESENTED PROPOSALS OF THE <br />STUDENT CiTY COUNCIL. <br /> <br /> A REQUEST FOR UTILITIES TO SERVE A PROPOSED APARTMENT PROJECT AT BARRACKS ROAD <br />AND GEORGETOWN ROAD was REFERRED TO THE PLANNI:NG COMMISSION FOR RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br /> A REQUEST T'O CLOSE THE PORTION OF KELLY STREET NORTH OF POPLAR STREET~ AND A <br />REQUEST TO CLOSE A PORTION OF MERIDIAN STREET~ BETWEEN MONTROSE AND ELLiOTT AVENUES <br />WERE REFERRED TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION FOR RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE ALBEMARLE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS <br />ACCEPTING THE PROPOSITION OF THE CITY CONCERNING BURLEY'HIGH SCHOOL~AND AGREEING <br />TO PAY $700~000.00 FOR THE CITY'S iNTEREST ON OR BEFORE JUNE 30~ 1969. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE PLANNING COMMISSION ADVISING THAT THE <br />PROPOSED FOUNTAIN COURT APARTMENTS ARE IN AN AREA LIKELY TO BE ANNEXED IN THE NEAR <br />FUTURE AND RECOMMENDING THAT THE LAND USE BE RESTRICTED TO R-3 ZONING. THE CiTY <br />MANAGER RECOMMENDED THAT UTiLITiES BE GRANTED AS REQUESTED. ON MOTION BY MR. <br />MOUNT~ SECONDED BY MR. RINEHART~ THE FOREGOING RECOMMENDATION WAS UNANIMOUSLY <br />ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDING THAT <br />THE REQUEST FOR REZONING 1131 THROUGH 1141E. HIGH STREET BE D~NIED. A PUBLIC <br />HEARING WAS SET FOR MAY 6, 1968 AT 7:30 P. M. TO CONSIDER THIS REQUEST. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE PLANNING COMMISSION ADVISING THAT THE <br />PROPOSED FARM1NGTON GARDENS APARTMENTS ARE IN AN AREA LIKELY TO BE ANNEXED IN THE <br />NEAR FUTURE~ AND RECOMMENDING THAT THE LAND USE BE RESTRICTED TO R-3 ZONING. THE <br />CiTY MANAGER RECOMMENDED THAT UTILITIES BE GRANTED FOR lOO UNITS WITH THE UNDER- <br />STANDING THAT FUTURE APPLICATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL UNITS WILL BE CONSIDERED SEPARATELY. <br /> <br /> <br />
