NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Monday, January 3, 2005 AT 6:30 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM - January 3, 2005 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Caravati, seconded by Ms. Hamilton, Council voted (Ayes: <br />Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton. Noes: None. Absent for the vote: Mr. Lynch <br />and Mr. Schilling) to meet in closed session for discussion and consideration of <br />appointments to City boards and commissions as authorized by Section 2.2-371 i(A)( of <br />the Virginia Code; and for consultation with legal counsel regarding a proposed <br />settlement of a worker's compensation claim, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711 (A)(7) of <br />the Virginia Code. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Caravati, Council certified by the <br />following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. <br />Schilling. Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only <br />public business matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the <br />Virginia Freedom of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed <br />session were heard, discussed or considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENT: BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Caravati, Ms. Amy Gardner was <br />appointed (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch. Noes: None. <br />Abstaining: Mr. Schilling) to a four-year term as the business owner in a design control <br />district representative on the Board of Architectural Review. This term will expire on <br />January 1, 2009. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER- January 3, 2005 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati encouraged citizens to contribute to a reputable charity to aid the <br />victims of the recent tsunami. He said he personally plans to contribute to Catholic <br />Charities. He said it is important for us to think about how well off we are and what we <br />can do to help. <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS: VSA ARTS POETRY BOOK <br /> <br /> Mr. RayMond White, 118 Danbury Court, Co-Chair of the VSA Arts Board, <br />explained that the program is operated through the Department of Parks and Recreation <br />and annually publishes a poetry book. He said there will also be an art show on January <br />14th. <br /> <br /> Ms. Rose Williams, 305 Meade Avenue, Co-Chair of the VSA Art Committee, <br />said she has written poems for all four poetry books. She read a poem written by a <br />student from the most recent book entitled "If I Were President." <br /> <br /> <br />
