i~ <br />THE CITY ATTORNEY ADVISED THE COUNGIL THAT HE HAO CORRESPONDED WITH THE <br />LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE OF THE LEAGUE OF VIRGINIA h4UNICiPALiTIES WITH REFERENCE <br />TO SECTION 15-671 BEING AMENDED SO AS TO PERMIT THE C{TY TO ASSESS ABUTTING <br />MATTER RE: AMENDMENT PROPERTY OWNERS UP TO ONE-HALF OF THE COST OF SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION WORK AND THAT <br />TO SECTION 15-671 - <br />WITH REFERENCE 70 THE COMMITTEE HAO APPROVED THE RECOMMENDATION. HE STATED THAT HE HAD BEEN <br />SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION <br />REQUESTED BY THE COMMITTEE TO PREPARE THE BILL AND TO REQUEST THE HONORABLE <br />HENRY B. CORDON TO SPONSOR IT IN THE LEGISLATURE, CN MOTION BY MR, MICHIE~ <br />SECONDED BY MR. FORBES, THE CITY ATTORNEY WAS REQUESTED TO COMPLY WITH THE <br />LEAGUE COMMITTEE S SUGGE5TION AND THAT OUR REPRESENTATIVES {N THE HOUSE AND <br />SENATE BE REQUESTED TO SUPPORT THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT. <br />THE CITY MANAGER REPORTED THAT HE HAD INVESTIGATED THE POSSIB.{ILITY OF <br />MATTER RE: THIRD WARD MOVING THE THIRD WARD VOTING PLACE FROM THE FIRE HOUSE TO THE MIDWAY BUILDING <br />VOTING PLACE <br />BUT WOULD PREFER CONSULTING WITH THE ELECTORAL BOARD BEFORE MAKING A FINAL <br />DECISION. <br />MR, HILL SUGGESTED THAT SOME SERIOUS THOUGHT AND STUDY BE GIVEN TO THE <br />MATTER RE: TRAFFIC GROWING TRAFf{C PROBLEMS IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA, HE REQUESTED THAT THE MAYOR <br />IN DOWNTOWN AREA <br />COMMITTEE APPUtNTED APPOINT A COMMITTEE TO STUDY TH15 MATTER AND MAKE SOME SUGGESTIONS AS TO A <br />POSSIBLE REMEDY.. THE MAYOR APPOINTED MR. HILL, MR.
