<br />THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING
<br />MEMBERS PRESENT: MR. DAVIS, MR. HILL, MR. MICHIE AND MR. WEINBERG. ABSENT: MR.
<br />FORBES.
<br />THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF MAY 21, 1956 MERE READ AND APPROVED.
<br />MR. HARVEY WILLIAMS AND MR. R. H. PERRY OF THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ADDRESSED
<br />THE COUNCIL AND REQUESTED THAT AN APPROPRIATION OF $1,500.00 BE MADE TO THE
<br />CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ADVERTISING FUND. ON MOTION BY MR. HILL, SECONDED BY
<br />MR. MICHIE, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED:
<br />APRROPRIATION: CHAMBER OF
<br />COMMERCE ADVERTISING FUND BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
<br />CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT X1,500.00 BE AND THE SAME IS
<br />HEREBY APPROPRIATED TO THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ADVERTISING
<br />FUND.
<br />DR. PASCHALL AND MR. THOMAS OF THE BELMONT BAPTIST CHURCH AND MR. UPDIKE
<br />OF THE WESTMINISTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND DISCUSSED
<br />wITH THEM THE OFF-STREET PARKING REQUIREMENTS ORDINANCE. THEY STATED THAT THEIR
<br />MATTER RE: OFF-STREET
<br />PARKING REQUIREMENTS CHURCHES WOULD SUFFER A SEVERE HARDSHIP IF THIS ORDINANCE WAS MADE EFFECTIVE
<br />ORDINANCE.
<br />IMMEDIATELY, SINCE THEIR CHURCHES HAD PLANNED TO EXPAND IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE,
<br />AND THAT FUNDS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL LAND IN ORDER TOCOMPLY
<br />WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS ORDINANCE. THEY SUGGESTED THAT THE ORDINANCE, IN
<br />SO FAR AS IT PERTAINS TO CHURCHES, BE MADE EFFECTIVE AT A LATER DATE. ON MOTION
<br />BY MR. MICHIE, SECONDED BY MR. HILL, THIS MATTER WAS REFFERED BACK TO THE
<br />COMMITTEE FOR CONSIDERATION.
<br />AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND RE-ENACTING THE BUILDING
<br />ORDINANCE RE: OFF-STREET CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE BY AMENDING AND RE-ENACTING SECTION 120.0
<br />PARKING REQUIREMENTS
<br />CARRIED OVER. THEREOF ENTITLED 'OFF-STREET PARKING REQUIREMENTS' ", was OFFERED BY MR. MICHIE,
<br />SECONDED BY MR. HILL, AND CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT MEETING FOR CONSIDERATION.
<br />ON MOTION BY MR. DAVIS, SECONDED BY MR. HILL, THE FOLLOWING COUNTY WATER
