DAVIS, MR.FORBES, MR. <br />HILL, MR. MICHIE AND MR. WEINBERG. NOES: NONE. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. MICHIE, SECONDED BY MR. HILL, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS <br />UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br />WHEREAS THE COUNCIL OF THECITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE IS GRAVELY <br />CONCERNED OVER THE EFFECT ON THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF THIS CITY OF THE <br />RECENT DECISION OF THE DISTRICT COURT OF THE UNITED STATES FOR THE <br />RESOLUTION RE: <br />SCHOOL BOARD AND WESTERN DISTRICT OF VIRGINIA IN THE CASE AGAINST THE CITY SCHOOL BOARD <br />PUBLIC SCHOOL MATTER <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE <br />CITY IS URGED TO APPEAL THE CASE WITH ALL POSSIBLE VIGOR AND THE GOVERNOR <br />OF VIRGINIA IS URGED TO IMMEDIATELY CALL THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF <br />VIRGINIA IN EXTRAORDINARY SESSION IN THE HOPE THAT SOME SOLUTION MAY BE <br />FOUND TO THIS CRITICAL PROBLEM <br />RESOLVED FURTHER THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE SENT TO THE <br />GOVERNOR OF VIRGINIA AND EACH MEMBER OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. <br />ON MOTION THE MEETING ADJOURNED. <br />CLERK RESIDENT <br />J <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER -AUGUST 6, 1956 <br />THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS <br />PRESENT: MR. FORGES, MR. HILL, MR. MICHIE AND MR. WEINBERG. ABSENT: MR. DAVIS. <br />THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JULY 16, 1956 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE CHARLOTTESVILLE WOOLEN MILLS REQUESTING <br />REQUEST GRANTED RE: <br />WATER LINES AT PERMISSION TO CONNECT THEIR HOUSES DIRECTLY TO THE CITY WATER LINE AND REQUESTING <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE WOOLBN <br />MILLS THAT THE CITY WAIVE THE USUAL COUNTY CONNECTION FEE, SINCE THE MILL WOULD BEAR THE <br />EXPENSE OF RUNNING THE LINES. A MOTION BY MR. HILL, SECONDED BY MR. FORGES THAT THE <br />FOREGOING REQUESTS BE GRANTED FOR THE EXISTING HOUSES, WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR STATING THAT THE STATE <br />REQUEST FROM LIBRARY DIR. LIBRARY BOARD HAD INCREASED THEIR STATE AID GRANT BY $1,977.00 FOR THE PRESENT <br />RE: APPROP. TO MATCH <br />STATE AID GRANT FISCAL YEAR, AND REQUESTED THAT AN APPROPRIATION OF THIS AMOUNT BE MADE TO THE LIBRARY, <br />ON MOTION BY MR. MICHIE, SECONDED BY MR. FORGES, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS <br />UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br />APPROPRIATION RE: LIBRARY BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />THAT 1,977.00 BE ANO THE SAME IS HEREBY APPROPRIATED TO SUPPLEMENT <br />THE BUDGET FOR THE PRESENT FISCAL YEAR iN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOREGOING <br />REQUEST. <br />REPORT FROM CITY ATTY.
