GENTLEMEN;
FOR SEVERAL MONTHS WE NAVE $EEN WORKING WITH OUR~NGINEERS, POLGLAZE: AND
BASENBERG, ON PLANS FOR A PROJECT TO REPLACE THE. MECHUM'S RIVER WATER PUMP AND
FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A PERMANENT TYPE, CONCRfTE INTAKE DAM TO SERVE THIS PUMP.
THE PRELIMINARY WORK SUCH AS CORE DRILLING, SURVEYING, DESIGN, ETC., HAS BEEN
COMPLETED AND THE TOTAL CCST OF THE PROJECT IS ESTIMATED AT X75,000.00
REPORT OF CITY MANAGER THE PUMPING FACILITY WHICH WE HAVE AT MECHUM'S RIVER AT Tyr PRESENT Tlh}E IS
RE: MECHUM'S RIVER DaM ABOUT 30 YEARS OLD AND IS NOT DESIGNED TO DO A JOB THAT IS NOW NEEDED. THIS PUMP
tS ALSO LOCATED BELOW FLOOD LEVEL AND CANNOT BE LEFT IN PLACE FOR IMMEDIATE USE.
ALSO A TEMPORARY INTAKE DAM MUST BE CONSTRUCTED EACH YEAR OR BEFORE THE PUMP CAN
BE PUT INTO OPERATION SINCE HIGH WATER IN ThiAT AREA ALWAYS DESTROYS ANY TEMPORARY
DAM STRUCTURE.
THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW PUMP AND A PERMANENT TYPE DAM IS NEEDED TO MAKE
AVAILABLE, DAILY IF WAN7E0, APPROXIMATELY 4 MILLION GALLONS OF ADDITIONAL GOOD
WATER SIMILAR IN NATURE TO THE MOORMAN'S RIVER WATER.
THIS WATER WILL BE PUMPED INTC THE MOORMAN'S RIVER 18" LINE, WHICH CROSSES
MECHUM'S RIVER AT THIS PUMP LOCATION, AND THIS WATER CAN EITHER BE SENT DIRECT
TO THE FILTER PLANT OR CAN BE PLACED IN THE RAGGED MOUNTAIN RESERVOIRS.
THERE WILL BE TIMES, HOWEVER, bJHEN THE FLCW IN MECHUM'S RIVER DROPS BELOW
THE 4 MILLION DAILY FLOW AND IF SOME WATER, SAY Z MILLION GALLONS PER DAY, IS
STILL YJANTED FROM THAT SOURCE, THE PUMPS WI!_L BE DESIGNCD TO CUT SACK TO DELI`JER
ONLY THAT QUANTITY. THE PRINCIPAL USE OF THIS FACILITY, HOWEVER, WILL BE TO
.SUPPLY WATER DIRECT TO THE FILTER PLANT AND TH-:.REBY ENABLE US TO RETAIN AND KEEP
THE MOOP.MAN'S RIVER RESERVOIR FULL OF WATER TO TAKE CARE. OF ANY EMERGENTY CAUSCO
BY A PROLONGED DRY SPELL. THERE ARE ALSO TIMES WHEN THE P9ECHUM'S RIVER WATER IS
OF A BETTER QUALITY THAN THE WATER 41E HAVE IMPOUNDED IN EITHER OF OUP, RESERVOIR=
AND iT WOULD BE TO GUI: ADVANTAGE, '.WHEN THIS HAPPENS, TO USE THIS SOURCE OF SUPPLY
