He said outreach in neighborhoods, <br />individual support and scholarships make the difference. <br /> <br />Strategy II: Better capture of entrepreneurial startup activity from the University in the <br />City <br /> <br /> Mr. Watts said the idea is to develop a technology based incubator program <br />downtown, and said a proposal will be included in the budget. He said it will involve <br />some pro-bono work. <br /> <br /> Ms. Hamilton asked why not just say incubator rather than “technology.” <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris said the idea is to create synergy among like minded firms. He said he <br />has no idea what the demand for such a program will be. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said Mr. Watts should take the feedback from Council and develop a <br />model for this program. <br /> <br /> Councilors agreed with maintaining contact with U. Va. agencies. <br /> <br />Strategy III: Focus on helping to generate and sustain successful small business <br /> <br /> Ms. Hamilton said we have nothing in place to help small businesses such as <br />Reid’s Grocery grow to the next level. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris noted that the Estes Supermarket on Cherry Avenue also needs help. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown suggested adding providing assistance to existing businesses. <br /> <br /> Councilors agreed with this strategy as amended. <br /> <br />Strategy IV: Partnerships with private sector groups to facilitate the completion of <br />significant development opportunities <br /> Councilors agreed to the initiative regarding Martha Jefferson Hospital <br />redevelopment. <br /> <br /> Regarding the initiative for redevelopment of Hydraulic Road and the Hillsdale <br />Drive Area, Mr. Norris said he is hesitant to name corridors as they have not been <br />prioritized. <br /> <br /> Mr. O’Connell suggested revisiting the study done a few years ago with property <br />owners on the corridors. <br /> <br />Strategy V: Increase tourism in partnership with CACVB to expand positive economic <br />impact of visitors on the City <br /> <br /> Councilors agreed with this strategy. <br /> <br /> <br />
