THE CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED THAT THE FOREGOING BE APPROVED. ON MOTION BY MR. COLEMAN, SECONDED <br />BY MR. WEINBERG, THE FOREGOING RECOMMENDATION WAS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED AND THE CITY <br />MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY WERE INSTRUCTED TO APPEAR AT THE STATE CORPORATION <br />COMMISSION HEARING TO PROTECT THE CiTY~S INTEREST. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. PHILLIPS WAS REAPPOINTED <br />AN ALTERNATE MEMBER FOR A ONE YEAR TERM. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. DAVIS, SECONDED BY MR. COLEMAN, MR. WALTER A. HASH, JR. BOWEN: <br />DECEMBER 21, 1959 <br />ACCORDING TO SOURCES I KNOW TO BE VERY RELIABLE, THE VIRGINIA <br />STATE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE WILL INTRODUCE INTO THE ASSEMBLY A BILL <br />TO CENTRALIZE iN THE OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER OF AGRICULTURE ALL AUTHOR- <br />ITY FOR THE REGULATION OF MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA, <br />DEPRIVING THE CITIES AND TOWNS OF THE RIGHT TO REGULATE THEIR OWN MILK <br />SUPPLIES FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE HEALTH OF THEIR CITIZENS. <br />WE URGE THE CITY COUNCIL TO EXPRESS ITS SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION TO <br />KEEP THIS AUTHORITY IN THE HANDS OF LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENTS WHERE, I <br />BELIEVE, IT PROPERLY BELONGS TO INSURE THE PROPER SAFEGUARDING OF MILK <br />FROM CONTAMINATION WITH DISEASE-PRODUCING GERMS. <br />SDS:FB <br />SINCERELY YOURS, <br />S.
