<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Monday, September 17, 2007 AT 6:00 p.m. IN THE Second Floor <br />Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – September 17, 2007 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Mr. Lynch, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. <br />Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) to meet in <br />closed session for 1) consultation with legal counsel regarding the proposed settlement of <br />a subrogation claim by the City pursuant to the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act, <br />where such consultation in an open meeting would adversely affect the negotiating <br />posture of the City, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(7) of the Virginia Code; 2) for <br />discussion or consideration of the acquisition of real property located on Ridge Street and <br />on Bent Creek Road, where discussion in an open meeting would adversely affect the <br />bargaining position or negotiating strategy of the City, as authorized by Section <br />2.23711(A)(3) of the Virginia Code; and 3) for discussion and consideration of <br />prospective candidates for appointment by Council to boards and commissions, as <br />authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Mr. Lynch, Council certified by the <br />following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br />Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom <br />of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, <br />discussed or considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – September 17, 2007 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown introduced Catherine Tobin, his intern from the Weldon Cooper <br />Center for Public Service. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch announced that there will be a 5 k run/walk on Saturday to benefit <br />Clark Elementary School. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said he will bring up the City Manager’s customer service initiative <br />during Other Business. <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS <br />: FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCREDITATION; <br />NATIONAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT PROCLAMATION; DOMESTIC VIOLENCE <br />AWARENESS MONTH <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown announced that the City Fire Department has been awarded the status <br />of Internationally Accredited Fire Service Agency by the Commission on Fire <br />Accreditation International. <br /> <br /> <br />
