<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Tuesday, December 11, 2007 AT 12:00 noon in the Charlottesville-Albemarle <br />Technical Education Center, 1000 E. Rio Road. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />CATEC – December 11, 2007 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Absent: Ms. Hamilton. <br /> <br /> Dr. Alvin Edwards, Chair of the School Board, said that success initiatives at <br />Buford Middle School will be the topic of the meeting. <br /> <br /> Mr. Eric Johnson, Principal of Buford School, discussed several community <br />partnerships that have been established with Buford, including U. Va., Youth Women’s <br />Leaders, Abundant Life Ministries, St. Anne’s High School and local vendors. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Rusina, Coordinator of Social Studies, discussed the Gear Up grant <br />which prepares students for higher education. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Lynch, Mr. Rusina said the grant is for <br />$30,050 and the cost for the summer program is $4,000. Mr. Rusina said extending the <br />program to all schools has been discussed. <br /> <br /> Ms. Gertrude Ivory, Associate Superintendent of Schools, said that expanding the <br />program is a budget and teacher planning issue. <br /> <br /> Mr. Johnson also discussed athletic programs at Buford and said that 56 students <br />participated in the fall program. <br /> <br /> The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />______________________________ ______________________________ <br />President Clerk <br /> <br />
