<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Tuesday, April 15, 2008 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Second Floor Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE: Annual Tax Levy (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> APPROPRIATION: Annual Budget Appropriation (2nd reading) <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: Establishing 2008 Personal Property Tax Relief <br /> Percentage <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – April l5, 2008 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said the budget process has been smooth, and he credited the staff for <br />their preparation and Mayor Norris for his skill. <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards thanked staff for their hard work and ingenuity. She said she hopes <br />she will learn more about the budget process over the next year. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja said that citizens have helped the process by giving lots of ideas. <br /> <br /> Mr. Taliaferro thanked everyone for their cooperation, and noted that Council and <br />staff worked together well. <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards said she has a passion for social issues, and it is all about economic <br />justice. She said where the money goes makes a moral statement about what is important <br />to Council. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris thanked staff and citizens for their input. He said the budget process <br />involved working through different priorities and needs. <br /> <br />nd <br />ORDINANCE <br />: ANNUAL TAX LEVY (2 reading) <br /> <br /> The ordinance entitled “AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH THE ANNUAL <br />TAX LEVY ON VARIOUS CLASSES OF PROPERTY FOR THE PAYMENT OF <br />INTEREST AND RETIREMENT OF THE CITY DEBT, FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE <br />CITY GOVERNMENT AND CITY SCHOOLS, AND FOR OTHER PUBLIC <br />th <br />PURPOSES,” which was offered at the April 7 meeting, was approved by the following <br />vote. Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: <br />None. <br /> <br />nd <br />APPROPRIATION <br />: ANNUAL BUDGET APPROPRIATION (2 reading) <br /> <br /> The appropriation entitled “RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE BUDGET FOR <br />THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY <br />1, 2008, AND ENDING JUNE 30, 2009 AND PROVIDING FOR THE ANNUAL <br />APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS FOR SUCH FISCAL YEAR,” which was offered at the <br />th <br />April 7 meeting, was approved by the following vote.
