<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Monday, April 21, 2008 AT 6:00 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – April 21, 2008 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following member present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Mr. Taliaferro, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. <br />Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) to meet in <br />closed session for consultation with legal counsel regarding the negotiation of the terms <br />and conditions of a proposed extension of a fire services agreement with Albemarle <br />County, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(7) of the Virginia Code; for the annual <br />performance evaluation of the City Manager, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of <br />the Virginia Code; and for discussion and consideration of prospective candidates for <br />appointments to City boards and commissions, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) <br />of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Mr. Taliaferro, Council certified by the <br />following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br />Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom <br />of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, <br />discussed or considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – April 21, 2008 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris thanked staff for their quick response to the roof leak at City Hall over <br />the weekend which prevented further damage. He highlighted a new initiative by the <br />Charlottesville Community Design Center, SPARK, which assists residents with energy <br />efficiency in their homes. He said the City is a member of “No Child Left Inside” <br />through the Department of Parks and Recreation. He announced a community job fair on <br />th <br />April 28. He asked anyone with knowledge of the missing 12-year old girl to contact <br />the Police Department. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja said a regional transportation summit will be held on May10th. <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards said appointments are still available at Women’s Health Day at <br />Westhaven. <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS <br />: GOVERNOR’S ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE <br />AWARD <br /> <br /> Mr. Taliaferro said that he recently accepted the Governor’s Environmental <br />Excellence Award on behalf of the City, the top award. He said the flag award was also <br />given for efforts above and beyond. He presented the awards to Mayor Norris and gave <br />staff credit for their hard work. <br /> <br /> <br />
