9
Mr. Huja asked if it would be possible to expand the pond, but Ms. Janiczek said
the Committee wanted to build it into the landscape and avoid grading and removing
trees. She said a large one would not really work.

Dr. Brown thanked the Committee and staff for their work on the concept, and
moved the resolution.

Mr. Huja seconded the motion.

Mr. Norris said a good job was done with the plan, even though he does not like
the road.

Dr. Brown said that Peggy Van Yahres, Committee member, thought we should
give thoughtful attention to the landscaping of all of the Parkway.

Mr. Huja asked if purifying fountains will be included, and Ms. Janiczek said no,
that a more natural approach is recommended.

The resolution approving the concept for the McIntire Road Extended pond
design was approved by the following vote. Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja,
Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None.

WHEREAS,
a committee (composed of City staff, VDOT representatives,
landscape professionals, etc.) was appointed by City Council to evaluate the design of
storm water management facilities for the McIntire Road Extended project; and

WHEREAS
, the committee has submitted its recommendation for the design of
storm water management facilities which will best blend with the natural contour and
landscaping of McIntire Park, with an emphasis on rain gardens; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED
by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that
this Council hereby approves in concept the storm water management design shown on
the attached two (2) drawings (Concept Plan and Concept Perspective) by Land Planning
& Design Associates, dated May 5, 2008.

ND
PUBLIC HEARING/RESOLUTION
: LEASE OF 201 2 STREET, N.W. TO
MCGUFFEY ARTS ASSOCIATION

Mr. Lance Stewart, Facilities Maintenance Manager, said that the City has had a
lease with the McGuffey Arts Center since 1975. He said a five-year lease is
recommended.

The public hearing was opened, but as there were no speakers, the public hearing
was closed.

Mr. Huja made a motion to approve the lease. He said McGuffey is a great asset
to our community.

Dr. Brown seconded the motion.

Mr. Norris said the McGuffey Artists Association would like to engage with the
City to work on a strategic planning process, and he asked that that be added as a
condition.

Mr. Huja accepted Mr. Norris’ amendment.

nd
The resolution approving the lease of 201 2 Street, N.W. to McGuffey Arts
Center, as amended, was approved by the following vote. Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms.
Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None.
