2
Mr. Henderson said the proposal is to take savings from the work done this year
and put it in escrow to use.

Mr. Ned Michie, Chair of the School Board, said that $175,000 was set aside in
the budget this year for alternative learning options.

Mr. Norris asked if any other interest has been expressed in Crow Pool, and Mr.
Mike Svetz, Director of Parks and Recreation, said no.

Mr. O’Connell noted that we have a difficult financial year coming.

Mr. Norris said we will talk about the financial forecast at the next meeting with
the School Board. He asked if the plan is totally depend on the use of Crow Pool.

Mr. Michie said no, but it would be easier because the City owns the building.

Ms. Atkins said the most pressing issue is the future lease of the Henry School
property.

Mr. Huja said the proposal may be the best option.

Mr. Norris asked if conceptually Councilors are on board.

Mr. Taliaferro said yes.

Mr. Norris said the only other question would be competing future uses for Crow
Pool, but he has not heard of any.

Ms. Edwards said she is interested in the impact the programs will have on
children. She said she would like to see the number of children that are more successful
because of the programs, and would like to hear some success stories.

Ms. Atkins said she can gather that information.

Ms. Edwards asked what savings can be attained because kids can be kept in
school.

Mr. Huja said it may be cheaper to build a new building rather than renovate
Crow.

Mr. O’Connell noted that it may also be cheaper to tear Crow down and build
back.

Mr. Michie asked if Council is okay with the Schools moving forward with the
design and cost analysis, and spending money to explore the feasibility, and Councilors
agreed.

Dr. Brown said that if other ideas surface about Crow pool that should be
communicated to the Schools.

Mr. Norris asked if Council and the School Board want to resume holding
monthly meetings, and it was agreed that they would, with the next meeting to be
September 19.

Dr. Brown said he would like a future meeting to talk about recycling in schools.

Mr. Henderson said that teachers are being sent a reminder about recycling, but he
noted that the Schools are mirroring what the City is doing.

The meeting was adjourned.

______________________________ ______________________________
President Clerk
