<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Monday, May 4, 2009 AT 6:30 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – May 4, 2009 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Taliaferro. Absent: Mr. Norris. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Ms. Edwards, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. <br />Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None. Absent for the vote: Mr. Huja. <br />Absent: Mr. Norris) to meet in closed session for discussion and consideration of <br />prospective candidates for appointment to City boards and commissions, as authorized by <br />Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br /> <br />On motion by, seconded by, Council certified by the following vote (Ayes: Dr. <br />Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None. Absent: Mr. Norris) that <br />to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business matters lawfully <br />exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom of Information <br />Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, discussed or <br />considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – May 4, 2009 <br /> <br /> <br />Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Taliaferro. Absent: Mr. Norris. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br /> Mr. Taliaferro said that there will be a new facility for Veterans of Foreign Wars <br />opening in conjunction with Armed Forces Day. He said City Hall and the Schools will <br />be closed for Memorial Day. He said summer pool passes are now available for sale. <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards said that May 6 – 12 is National Nurse’s Week. She listed some tips <br />to avoid catching the flu. <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Taliaferro presented proclamations for Letter Carrier Day, Public Service <br />Week and Tourism Week. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Ms. Dede Smith, 2652 Jefferson Park Circle, asked Council to direct its <br />representatives on the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority to get the dredging study RFP <br />on the May agenda. She said we are 25% below projected water usage. She said it is <br />imperative that we get information on the feasibility of dredging. <br /> <br /> Mr. Kevin Lynch, 609 Locust Avenue, thanked Council for insisting that the <br />dredging RFP be done. He said other parties in the County have stalled. He said some <br />disturbing things were said at the last Albemarle County Service Authority meeting. He <br />said he has read that the theater at the proposed Hillsdale Drive Extended location is <br />planning to expand. He said we need the road for our economic development. He said <br />he is delighted to see the P-3 plan going forward. <br /> <br />
